He'd make a good Foreign Secretary,
Yes, doesn't he speak 7 languages or something?

Everyone in Spain was very excited about the Lib Dems (I'm not exaggerating) because of Nick Clegg's wife. Lots of coverage on the news and they screened the leader's debates. Going to be disappointment here.

The incumbent party have the first chance. That's how it is apparently.
Not necessarily how everyone sees it...

The guy on the telly was just saying they got a bigger share of the vote than Tony Blair did in 1997. So how come one results in a Labour landslide, but when it goes the other way it's a hung parliament? I don't get it.
That's the brilliance (BS) of SMP. Popular vote means fuck all. If you were to win every riding with 1% of the vote (split vote between a 101 candidates), you'd have an absolute majority with 1% of the popular vote (extreme, but illustrates the point).
In England the Tories have a massive majority. Given that Scotland is highly overrepresented in parliament (far too many constituencies for the number of people) will questions be asked again about that?
The representation of Scotalnd has no bearing on the popular vote the Conservatives got, and at 36%, I'd say that's not a massive majority (well, it's not a majority full stop).
And Poplar and Bethnal Green & Bow are concerned about electoral fraud. What a fucking surprise.
My riding (BG & Bow). Respect had filed complaints before the election day (on postal ballots). Will be interesting to see what happens.

The Hansard Society, the independent parliamentary authority, say what happens on Friday will depend on a combination of the electoral arithmetic, the constitutional conventions, the pressures of the media cycle and the blogosphere, the reaction of the markets and the direction of public opinion.
I am going to do my bit by making sarcastic posts on a London cycling forum and spending millions on government bonds.

The only result I'm really gutted about is Evan Harris. He was one of the only half-decent MPs we had, and he stood up for science and evidence-based policy. All too rare.

But in terms of seats it's Scotland that have shored up Labour enough to Deny the Conservatives an outright majority.
But I'm wrong anyway. The number of seats was reduced after 2005 to fix the inequality.
Wales is still overrepresented and returns 8 or 9 more MPs than the population size would suggest they are entitled to. -

We'll be voting again soon.
Clegg said he would work with the party that secured most votes, so that would be the Tories.
But the Tories don't want PR, but that would be the price Clegg would have.
Labour + LibDems don't have enough of a majority together to push through electorial reform.
Clegg blew it.

Bets on for Labour chucking Gordon Brown for Alan Johnson paving the way for a LibLab pact?
-
• #1311
Disappointed that the Lib Dems didn't do much better, but overall I think the result is not too bad, a hung Parliament might be the best outcome considering the bunch of cunts that make up the Conservative and New Labour parties.
^ This.

At the moment constitutionally only Gordon Brown (as the current PM) has the right to try to form a govt. If he fails (or just resigns) then it'll turn next to Cameron as the cons have the largest number of votes & seats.
Of course, that doesn't stop the Libs & Labour forming a pact but Cameron would probably be PM of a minority government at that point.

officially hung now

Downside Zac Taxsmith is here for at least 5 years.
Upside Jacqui haha, fuck off!

Absolutly!!! Good riddance to the sanctamonious bitch.

Not yet true, 35 seats still to declare. Until all the results are in we just don't know.

It's not looking good is it? That smug cunt is going to be sitting in No.10, and worse, appearing on my TV screen for the next 4 years. Please, if there is a god, intervene now...
-
• #1318
He can try, over my dead body though - and a lot of other people's I suspect. In reality he clearly hasn't got a mandate for power, so doing so would be highly unpopular and counter-productive.
Not necessarily how everyone sees it...

Brown will not be there in 4 years time. Mandelson has already said in an interview this morning one option is removing him.

I wasn't talking about Brown. -

There are loads of other parties with seats. If conservative form minority government, Lib Lab and minority parties will effectively form a majority on PR?
Wishfull thinking i reckon, but possible.
If Tories make less than 290 or even 300, it's very difficult to argue they have mandate over the government.
-
• #1322
I've had enough now. As long as Brown fucks off I don't care if Bob Monkhouse is made Prime Minister, as long as they get on with it and shut the fuck up about it right soon.
-
• #1323
If Brown leaves, it will change everything, for the better. Might be the best timing for him to leave.
I'm so pleased the Tories fell short. If they can win this, what can they win. I think it's cos old tories are dying out. They're only breeding in a minority of universities.

They are already on 291...
34 seats to be declared.

He'd make a good Foreign Secretary, the sooner that Milliband is moved on the better.
