To lock everything removable on a bike would require lugging half a ton of chain... You gotta take your chances at some point, even if it only losing your bell.

true but the person locking the above bike could have saved a minimum of the frame and rear wheel (including tire and tube) which are two of the most expensive pices of a bike. instead they lost the whole lot bar a stripped wheel.
IMO chance had nothing to do with 90% of this loss...

You're right. Today I added up the stuff on my bike that it is impossible to chain somehow, that anyone with set of allens can steal, and it is a staggering amount. You don't realize when you spend a few bucks here and there for a seat or handlebar or a stem or a light how much it mounts up.
I have no quick releases on my bike anymore, not one. But now I'm wondering if I should splash out for a couple of boxes of security fasteners, you know, those that require a special oddsided bit to undo, to replace the allen bolts on the accessories.

Not until I had been looking at buying some sti shifters did I suddenly realise how big the loss would be if someone unbolted your stem to take the lot. Most shifter sets are least £100 a pair.

Decent bars, stem & even stuff like bar tape always adds up.
Which is why you need these in your life:

You mean pop them in the allen key socket and they hold magnetically? Are key sockets magnetic?

If they're alloy which some are just use a dab of glue to hold the ball in. Dissolve with nail varnish remover.
Nuff threads about doing this. Bars, stem, saddle, post, bottle cages, racks, brake levers(sti also?) and some wheels etc etc are rendered immune to opportunists(who don't carry magnets and/or nail varnish remover) -

The owner of this bike needs some ball bearings.

Winner.
Get one of those 'ways to lock your bike' leaflets from TFL and leave about 100 of them round his bike. -

I'd like to publicly thank the owner of the Pashley Sovereign, who upon seeing the pathetic quality of my locks (mini fhug + evo) decided to save my bicycle by passing his chain through the stand and my frame.
You sir are a gentleman of the highest order. Who needs to leave work early anyway?

maybe put a note on it?

That's happened to me a couple of times. My immediate repsonse was to deflate tyres, but of course they might retaliate.

The building reception sent out a mail saying something along the lines of "move your bike before security do dumbo".
Lucikly he works in my building, so it was only a 30 min delay in all. Witnessing his embarrassed fumbling with the lock went a long way to making up for it too.
haha im a bit late on this. when did it happen?
