Absolutely! So glad Bicycle Tag End of Days has been averted through some great tags ... so when are we doing the ride? End of September?

  • ^^^^ Dammit. Are you in the foot tunnel much? We must have crossed paths but have i've not seen the orange and white yet. I have a Penguin Books ink stamp you might like...

  • Let's just hope the weather is the same on your tagging day as it is when you get an old tag

  • Tour de Tag is a great idea. a route was mooted before

  • How would you guys feel about a day of competitive bicycle tagging, sort of like an alley cat crossed with bicycle tag of bike?

  • I fully support this idea! How would it work?

  • Maybe release a set of 20 locations and the person/team to tag the most in an hour wins? Rather than depend on phone internet you just take the pictures and use the time tags to authenticate them at the end?

  • I wouldn't mind seeing 30 bicycles or more in the shot of some old tags:) maybe do a top ten tag where you guys can vote for which ones for whatever reason or a planned route and a bunch of cyclists then go for it! I am sure someone has a DSLR to take some lovely shots as well. I enjoy looking at the tags and why people chose them immensely, especially when I can not sleep. This forum is full of joy really.

Has anyone gone to find a tag and met another forum member?

  • someone chooses some choice tags and we go ride to them together, taking photos?

or could be an alleytag where you have to bring back photos, but i don't think that would be a popular choice b/c there's less socialising and more getting lost.

alternatively we could pick a few ex-tags from the thread and also say everyone who comes bring a new tag too, and do the group ride and photos thing

  • Sumo and I met sherbertflyingsaucer at a tag once. He rocked up about 30 seconds after we got there, so we did a triple tag.

  • ^^^^ so i also thought along these lines, but i reckon some people be put off...

  • How many would be up for a fun ride maybe tagging a top ten voted/nominated bicycle Tag of Bike? Slow pace one as opposed to a race.

There is some competitiveness playing this game, but the spirit seems to be more on the fun side too.

A triple tag must have been cool indeed btw!

  • But if it's a group ride there isn't much competitiveness going on, I think if people were in teams of 3/4 with a mixture of knowledge (< tactful way of saying old fogeys and young uns) between them it would still be social and fun and you'd learn a lot from each other while you did it.

Maybe it could be spread over many hours so speed/getting lost isn't such an issue.

All ending with a deadline to meet at one final tag which will of course be an establishment that serves alcohol and we can all get drunk :)

(I'm gong to stop talking now because I've been posting far too much...sorry)

  • I suppose there could be a check point type thing if anyone would be bothered to stay in a spot and list the time a team came over and of course take pics.

Or maybe a team could split up and go for a few each and all meet up at one last big tag as you said? It would be a bit like homage pigeons where you wait for your last tag member to come home and 'win' the bike de tag.

Who knows, but it does sound fun!

Maybe a 1 quid fee per entree which could be given to a charity?

Have I gone too far? It's late! Lol.

  • Has anyone gone to find a tag and met another forum member?

36x18 and me meet for the first time when both of us went for a door by Wapping Project.
He got there just before me, took a picture and was riding off, as he saw me approaching to take a picture, and was very kind to offer to do it together!

    All of this!!!

(but not in August - I'm cycling around Japan!)

  • ^ Or September - I'm rafting the Rogue River!

  • With regards to pre-tagging. I have done this once or twice. I think it's OK. I did the policeman's hook, the underground road and Q branch in the same morning when I woke at 5am and decided I felt like a bike ride.

The Chiswick mosaic one was a pre-tag.
I actually did go and photograph it after going to get the statue on Holland Park ave, but Mrs Quinn was quite insistent that I should do the St Ethelburga's garden instead, and as it was her that found the statue I had to acquiesce, so I saved it up for the next tag I got.

Luckily it was open. It was shut the first time I had tried, after the City road tube tag so I ended up tagging the Guildhall that time.

  • Or Decebruary, I'm flying to the moon.

  • The new tag is a bit of a trek but I'm thinking from where I live near Finsbury Park I should be able to plot a reasonably flat route. Also thinking of a well connected tag that could follow, just quite a bit more central.

  • Right with regards to the competitive tagging my idea was to nominate a referee who could set up 'shop' in a central location all the competitors meet there then scatter to where ever they would like to make a tag but have to return in a set time limit, say 30 mins, this ensures that no tag is too far away.

Once they have got their tags the competitors return to the referee who uploads them all plus clues, the competitors then have to go and find as many of the other tags as they can in say.... 3 hours. Points to be awarded for the most tags collected, the tag that the fewest people have found etc.

  • ^^glad someone knows the current tag. i'm stumped.

  • A TaggyCat competition?

  • Maybe release a set of 20 locations and the person/team to tag the most in an hour wins? Rather than depend on phone internet you just take the pictures and use the time tags to authenticate them at the end?

I was thinking along these lines- like the Three Valleys Rally in the Alps- teams of 4, 2 men 2 women, 2 skiiers 2 snowboarders, and all 4 have to get themselves to checkpoints in each valley as quickly as possible. Obviously the idea is to ski/ board bu there's not rules- a few years ago a local millionaire hired a helicopter and loaded his team on and won in about an hour- totally legit!

I also think that hatching a plan by committee is not too effective- maybe two or three people (regular taggers?) could come up with a plan that maximises riding, tagging, socialising, with a little bit of light competitiveness thrown in? And a trip to a pub?

I'm happy to help but am not a long-time player of the game so probably not the best person for the job :)
