  • So glad someone called a5 picked up a tag on Watling Street, which is what the A5 is based on, norf of london.

Read a book called Watling St last week (it was brilliant) and realised that loads of significant bits of my life are close to this old road.

  • The approach to the new one is on a topically named street.

  • Read a book called Watling St last week (it was brilliant

    Thanks for the recommendation.

  • Midsummer ride to MK next year?

You're not trying to lure us into a Midsommar ride are you?

  • Stop @replying me Skully. Say my name!

  • OK Will do.

  • I'm proud to say that in my student days I dropped a whole tray of champagne in front of one of the riders featured in this mural. I then crashed my boss's car later that same day. Fun times.

  • Old: Sanford Housing Co-op just off Cold Blow Lane

  • That would have been quite the night out.

  • Which is wrong IMO If I have the right pub.

  • Is there any story behind the mural?

The road going past under the tunnels was used quite often when filming ashes to ashes.

  • “We walked on down to the Sanford Housing Co-operative (Sanford Walk, SE14) with its 1984 mural 'Riders of the Apocalypse' designed by Brian Barnes with help from Ray Walker and others. This late Cold War classic shows Thatcher, Reagan and Heseltine flying around on nuclear missiles - there's also a Russian leader, not sure who it's supposed to be - Gorbachev didn't become Soviet leader until 1985, I think it's probably Andropov who died in 1984. The mural was funded by the Greater London Council via 'London Muralists for Peace'. Apparently the original design featured skeletons on missiles, but some of the residents objected.”

The blue is really pretty good IRL.

  • So I started updating the map, beginning with the most recent. Got to about 3 weeks back (seems we've been relatively prolific of late!), but have had enough for one evening. The next one, going back, is about a year ago! I don't mind updating it as its interesting seeing where these actually are, but if you could, please add to it if you do a new tag? It's easy and you can add a personal touch if you wish. Also, sometimes they not so easy to find, virtually.
Which reminds me of the idea I had, when I've had enough of just riding down as many roads as possible, to ride to every tag. This is treasure-trove of places to see! And some, like the current one, might not be round forever.

  • Yeah it’s unfortunate. Will try to remember to post the article about it when someone’s tagged it. Had a pretty big overhaul two or three years ago that changed the place completely and a lot of people stopped going. Closed down not long after.

  • Old tag: Montague Arms, Queens Road, Peckham
