To elaborate on my response to lynx: I'm guessing that lnyx's claim is based on poorly sourced, gas-gussler apologist "research" piece from 2007.

Specifically, that the Prius is less "environmentally friendly" that a Hummer.

The claims were specious, and disingenuous compiled. The Prius might not be the saintly earth saver that it is marketed as, but only the most credulous would take the article on faith alone.

Plus the brakes don't work, so it'll reduce your carbon footprint rather quickly if you drive over cobbles on a wet day....

Totally. And the problem with the Prius doesn't so much lie in each individual car, but in the likely numbers of them that will be produced--rather more than Hummers. As a marketing strategy, greenwash is contagious--compare claims in the 70s that smaller cars would reduce oil dependency and congestion. Result? The two-car household and far more cars.

It also drives like a wet piece of cheese.
