But for real, I think he meant, that it's cheaper to create the enregy needed to move the car. I hope so, with a fucking big V8 engine and 10mpg. Oh, and the life span of the engine is 3 times longer (which doesn't meant, that most owners doesn't upgrade after only two years of owning one)

It's a lot cheaper in terms of time and materials to make a hummer, and the lack of exotic metals and so forth also help it to be far less harmful to the environment when made as opposed to the Pius.
Far more emmisions are emmited during the birth of a car than in it's entire life afterward.
Therefore logically one should get an old car and convert it to run on Ethanol.
This can be made from sawdust, and is also, rather conveniently, equivalent in octane to race fuel.

I remember an old car collector telling James May, that all that global warming will save the classic cars. Just stick to what you have and take care of it.
-
• #135
or you could cut out the middle man and run your car on sawdust
I dread to think how pollutive the ethanol conversion process is
-
• #136
I'm very serious about converting my car to run on Ethanol- 103 octane, you can make it yourself, and it resists detonation like a champ so it's much safer for a highly tuned engine than petrol.
Only issue is that you need to make sure you are near a Morrison if you run low on fuel.

We'll just cut down the remaining rainforests and job done.

We just need to get fusion to the stage where we get more energy out than we have to put in and then we are sorted.

Isn't the whole point of petrol's existence so its consumption can be taxed?
Many owners of old diesel powered trucks, vans and cabs in Poland made home make conversion to vegetable oil to save money. You go to your chippy and ask for a barrel. It stinks and it's illegal. The main reason is the same like in case of cannabis/alcohol use, that the government can't get its share in one case, but can tax the user in the other.

You still need to pay tax on it.

On biofuels, yes. Not on used vegetable oil.
Before you do any kind of conversion find out how big the network of alternative fuels is (if there is any around your town at all). LPG for example, very popular on the continent, is extremely difficult to find over here and you have to plan your journey sensibly.

We only have one garage that sells bio diesel.
