  • I thought 'Carpet Remnants' was the worst show I'd seen him do for years :/

    #butIdotendtowantthemoononastick

  • the first half was a slow burner...

surely you liked the jungle canyon rope bridges?

  • Barely a hehe, let alone a haha. At least he was honest about things. #I'vegotnothingshrug

  • Mock the Week isn't funny. At all. In fact I would go as far as to say mainstream comedy is dead. Jack Whitehall? I rest my case

  • He's better as a comedy character than as a comedian.

  • i've given up watching mock the week, gone to shite, HIGNFY is going that way too imo.

Not just me then. The constant "not my audience" stuff was snobbish wank as well. I've been watching him for 20 years (christ, I've only just realised that) and I've been a middle class marketing wanker more likely to buy the Telegraph than the Guardian for the last 15 of those. I think he's using it as justification for the audience not laughing as much, when in fact it's simply weak material. He should probably take a year off from Edinburgh if that's the best he could come up with.

  • I saw him at t'Fringe a couple of years ago, the show where he was doing a 'best of' determined by people picking an egg with a number on it, which it transpires in the show he doesn't actually do. But it was fucking superbly funny..

  • I thought Stewart lee was fantastic. only me then!

jack whitehall is fucking superb in fresh meat... his standup meh

  • i saw carpet remnant world the other day and i thought it was unbelievably good!! also in tears of laughter by the end. i don't see how you could like his other stuff and not like that...

  • I saw Carpet Remnants about 2 weeks ago and loved it.
2nd time I've seen him... the 1st was was at Edinburgh with a completed show a few years back. Carpet Remnants is a work in progress.

The whole "not my crowd" is a good joke. In his tv show he plays the studio audience against the "dumb" tv audience and when you see it live he plays the left side off the right. If your on the wrong side of the crowd and your offended... you probably just don't get that its a joke.

... if thats the case Lenny Henry has a new show on BBC.

  • Just started Stu Lee's book, brilliant.

  • His play with the audience (left/right, TV/live, old/new) seems like filler whenever he does it, and in a show which is mostly filler and still manages to drag on for an hour and a half, it's lazy. The fact that I was on the "wrong" side of the divide, probably made me find it even more frustrating to sit through. I understand that it's a joke, I just know he can do so much better

I'm not sure you can call CRW a work in progress. I saw him doing a pre-Edinburgh version of it and it was 90+% the same, but notably better for the missing audience work. The reason I saw it again was that I hoped the content had improved, and it had barely changed.

Jasper Carrot is another unfunny cunt who has been wheeled back out, much to my chagrin.

Hopefully they are taking airtime away from Michael McIntyre.

  • Booked tickets for Doug Stanhope in March - anyone else?

  • Tempted. Might have to check how it corresponds with our child-elsewhere schedule…

  • You're not seeing him in London then?

  • Nope, Aberdeen

  • And that's why you drink.

  • I don't drink?

  • I'm Doug Stanhope, and that's why I drink

    .

  • oh yeah, missed that

  • love it, looking forward to him tonight

  • Doug Stanhope was 50% great, 50% scattergun stream of consciousness - his support was superb - this guy was fucking ace!
