Voted for by the general public.
I stand by my long lived opinion that all of the general public are morons.

He's excellent in Fresh Meat

I hated him at first but he's grown on me.
Like a parasite.

I've got nothing against the posh twat.

Not that they mean much, but the comedy awards tonight were so dull and mediocre and just summed up the lack of funny on the telly. The only decent show on offer was the thick of it. Maybe it's just me, but as a teenager in the late 90's every weekend the telly was packed full of comedy shows, and with more than a choice of 5 stand ups all year round. Summers were longer too.
Yeah, you have to go out to see good stand-up, but it would be nice to see a little variation on TV. The whole fun of stand-up is the possibility of bombing. The only bombs I see on screen are old footage on youtube or american shows. Mainstream british stand up is so safe and banal by comparison; as if it's entirely tailored for panel shows.

Dull dull safey shite. Needs a kick up the arse. British comedy is now totally mainstream, and it's in no small part due to the fact that young guys with haircuts and T shirts see it as a quick route to becoming a T4 presenter or something. all cunts, fuck off and die

There's plenty of amazing stand-ups (and TV writers for that matter), they're just buried under a mass of dull safety shite. It's no surprise the comedy awards panders to those types.
Jack Whitehall...I wanted to hate him in Fresh Meat based on his terrible stand up, but his character was well written and he did a good job with it, so I guess not entirely undeserved.

yeah it's amazing that he did all those pubs and clubs and got noticed and developed and then rose to the top due to talent, instead of just using his Dad's connections at the BBC, like so many others would have done

Jack W was on Fighting Talk (the sports quiz on 5 live) and was absolutely hilarious. I'd hated him before that but it won me over.

Nothing but hate for Whitehall and the current mainstream stand-up "comedy"/drivel pedlars that is being pumped around on bbc3 for 5 hours a day. Utter dross.
Russell Kane? Fuck right off.

The first part of this is just plain genius, he really is a master of his craft.

This must rate as one of the most ballsy stand up routines ever performed. -

So I'm totally new to this standup comedy thing. Girlfriend bought me Stewart Lee's Carpet Remnant World DVD for my birthday in November saying I would enjoy his style of comedy. Really enjoyed it, I thought he was hilarious, I would like to see him live now.
Watched Jon Richardson's DVD over Christmas period, I laughed so hard it hurt. His routine reminded me of myself. I like laughing at myself.

Going to see Eddie Izzard in May, can't bloody wait!
Also got Stewart Francis' "Outstanding in his field" and "Tour de Francis" on DVD, should be good.

Fuck yeah, I have seen one of Eddie Izzard's shows before, the one with "cake or death". He amuses me.

• #246
I've seen all 7 to date, many, many, many times! Gonna be awesome!

Yeah he's no comic genius, but his show was all about laughing at his own habits. Like I said, many of which, I have myself and openly laugh at. It was basically like laughing at myself. Which I do all the time. Because if I didn't laugh at myself I'd probably cry. All day. Alone. In my room.

Your very clean room.
I like comedians which aren't crease-yourself-laughing-constantly-for-2-hours funny. Like Cosby. Primarily they're are just interesting.
Stanhope is very relaxed about his show, some people think he's lazy, I don't mind.
