I made a report today as a result of someones dangerous driving and threatening behaviour.
Thanks for the DVLA mention in this thread as I've checked the Reg number I memorised and it matches the model and colour of vehicle invovled. Very shaken, quite angry, and a bit perplexed.
I'll no doubt find out more in due course but it seemed to be explained that I either have to push for this to go to court, or let it go in a file as a reported stat.

Trouble is I can only remember that the car was a dark coloured estate and the registration number started with 'AD03' - I can't remember the second half,
1 in lots chance of you being right if you try
AAA
AAB
AACetc etc etc... until you get a match?

1 in 17,576... I guess the number of estates in that could bring it down to 1 in a thousand?

I posted a few months ago (way back in the pages of this thread) about a run in I had had with a National Express coach. I had one of those eBay Muvi MD80 cameras on my handlebars so uploaded the footage to youtube, and sent a link to both National Express and roadsafelondon with a complaint about the driving. A nice, young, female civilian police person then came around and took down my particulars ...
This was back in the early summer and I never heard anything more - I assumed it had just fizzled out ... until yesterday. I get a call from a DCI in the traffic department of the Met who explained that, on the basis of the footage I provided (higher quality on DVD not just the youtube footage) the coach driver had pleaded guilty to driving without due care (I think it was), had got 3 points, a £150 fine plus lots of costs. As a "professional" driver, this is pretty serious and could lead to him losing his job. Good stuff, I thought, he'll take a bit more care around cyclists in the future.
Next bit is that the DCI asks if I would be prepared to be interviewed by someone from the BBC who is planning on doing a feature about this - i.e. cyclists using helmet/handlebar cams and successfully prosecuting dangerous drivers based on the footage. From speaking to the BBC chap (anything for my 15 mins), it seems that there are quite a few complaints from cyclists using helmet cam footage, but surprisingly few successful prosecutions. If any of you out there have successfully used cam footage to to secure a conviction against some dangerous/inconsiderate driving, would you send me a PM? (Assuming, of course, that you're happy for me to pass the story to this guy at the Beeb.)
PS. Also posted on bikeradar as I know quite a few on there use helmet cams.

THI - both "Benborp" and "Number 14" have had successful prosecutions using helmetcam film. They are contactable via Cyclechat and have dealt with the media before (Sunday Times).

Nice one.

Fucking awesome
Amazing and heartening
Though £150 seems a pittance for deliberately putting another persons life in danger.

Found it via looking at his post, and check his first post in this topic.
pretty scary, what worried me the most is that it must've look perfectly normal from the driver's seat, like everything's fine.

Cabbies listen to LBC... I wrote to Jonathan Richards, Programme Director about their broadcast last week. He was totally disinterested. If I go this week I’ve left instructions that I want my carcass draped over their reception desk..

i have a morbid obsession with LBC - usually have it on the background in the kitchen. Ostensibly Daily Mail FM. How they haven't been dragged kicking and screaming before every press/broadcasting complaints commission in the realm is anyones guess. they are ribaldly right wing and pander to the worst sort of reactionary, mis-informed white van man 'Britain's gone to the dogs and it's all the fault of immigrants/assylum, seekers/single mothers/lack of corporal punishment in schools/no national service/the labour party/same sex relationships/speed cameras' opinions. i realise they have to cater for what they percieve as their demographic, but some of the shit they get away with beggars belief. just stick around for the at least twice weekly anti-cycling mong-fest.
they do have yer man ken livingstone on a saturday morning. co-presenting with someone who makes enoch powell look like Miffy.
used to get radio 4... fell off the dial one day. -

I like James O'brien as he offers some logic. I have recently started making the switch from the senile Mike 'fascist' parry on Talk Sport. -

No plate details or driver description unfortunately, but a black cab tried to run me down this morning. Driver leant out of his window as he passed me and either said something or spitted, I couldn't tell which.
Looking at the map, it must have been at the lights where Barnsbury Road turns into Penton St. I was heading south and in my dozy morning state didn't immediately notice the lights change to green. I set off what must have only been a couple of seconds after the change - there was no traffic behind me, so I was quite relaxed. Cab was pointing north waiting to turn right into Tolpuddle St. He set off a moment after I did, driving right for me as I went across the junction. I just put the power down and he went behind me, but if I hadn't evaded he would have hit me unless he slammed on the brakes.
It's a large junction with plenty of space - no way could it have been a SMIDSY.

Interesting article on the beeb
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12334486mentions the coach incident.
Came incredibly close to being taken out by an absolute twunt towing a trailer down Manchester Road in Island Gardens this lunchtime. It was one of those big box trailers which are much wider than the car, so the first time he (or she) overtook I thought they're a bit close, then got a massive trailer about an inch from my bars.
Got past (and didn't really notice anything memorable about the car) then they overtook me again, this time leaving so little room I had to slow suddenly and steer off pretty much into the curb. Either it was deliberate or they have absolutely no idea of how to drive with a trailer, but either way they're a menace.
Trouble is I can only remember that the car was a dark coloured estate and the registration number started with 'AD03' - I can't remember the second half, even though I spent 5 minutes after the second pass trying to chase them down to have a word repeating the registration number to myself. So not much to go on at all. Worth reporting? I wouldn't bother at all but I think suspect they might actually knock someone off if they carry on like that.
