Were you aware of any of the vehicles behind you?
If not then you need to up your awareness especially leading up to traffic calming/narrowings, junctions etc.If you knew the van was also behind you have two options:
Hug the kerb and let it pass.
Pull out (carefully) into the middle so as you're passing through pinch points so it's clear to all: this is NOT the place you're going to be overtaken.
I wouldn't suggest belligerently sitting in the middle of the road indefinitely as some here advise- I personally think it's provocative. Once you're through the narrowings there's nothing wrong with moving to the left to let faster moving vehicles overtake but do the whole thing again well in advance of narrowings/junctions.

Been a while since I used roadsafe. Probably not worth the hassle in this case but thought I'd report bus cunt just for the hell of it.
At approximately 17:37 I was waiting at the lights at the top of Finsbury Park Road, about to cross Seven Sisters Road.
As the lights changed to green I was about to set off when a 253 or 254 bus came through the junction from the direction of Manor House, obviously a considerable time after the light on the main road would have turned red. I actually had to do a double-take to make sure the lights were in my favour before crossing.
Given the recent and very well publicised clampdown on all road users, I trust that you will consider it absolutely unacceptable that - of all vehicles, a bus - can be driven in this manner. I apologise that the information provided is far from complete, but am of the understanding that buses are fitted with good external CCTV coverage and conclusive evidence should not be difficult to obtain.
If you mange to track down the offending bus, any rear-facing camera should also capture the scooter rider who followed shortly behind it.
Many thanks.

Don't know if anyone can help me out here...
At about 8:55-9:00 this morning at the turn from Brixton Road onto Kennington Park Road at Oval I had an educational altercation with someone who looked like his mothers uncle in a silver pickup. He and the driver didn't appreciate me being in primary as I turned left (a practice I've adopted since the 'super' highway was there as it feels much safer) and overtook within millimetres of me while hanging out the window screaming and leaning on the horn.
More annoyed that I lost my cool - it always works much better in these situations (I find) to calmly ask the driver why, even if I was in the wrong, did he feel the need to put my life in danger. It normally results in them feeling a bit chastened/embarrassed and driving off. Unfortunately this time I resorted to the much less evolved 'dickhead'.
Either way, if anyone saw this/got the plate or company I'd appreciate it.

Tried going through TFL? They seem to give a more adequate response.

Got a reply from the met saying it had been forwarded to the relevant people at tfl. Can't imagine they'll grass up their driver to the cops tho', despite a very obvious offence having been committed.

Following on from the Great Dogstar Beer Dray Debacle i have just received this on the twitters. So good on 'em, pity their beer tastes like lemur piss.
@MolsonCoors
We’ve spoken with all parties involved and changed our loading patterns to meet parking restrictions. Thanks again for flagging - 27 Nov@MolsonCoors
Our local team has taken steps to resolve the issue. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if anything. Cheers! -

Nice one.
On a different note, is it worth contacting national express about their drivers on old Kent Road constantly go onto bus lanes? Again? I reported twice last year because they were both close calls. On both occasions, I was promised the usual training and reminders to drivers etc. Nothing has happened to me since I decided to be the "annoying bitch" to ride right in the middle of the lane but it still doesn't stop they from trying...
-
• #4112
They do the same on CS2 I think... maybe as they are "Public transport" they count?
-
• #4113
You'd think they'd get done by cameras etc otherwise. Unless they're officially unofficially told to use lanes they know are less enforced.

When I had my last incident with one of them, I asked the police specifically if coaches are allowed to be on the bus lanes, the answer was no. When I asked the same question to National Express, the PR dept had no idea and said they will check. And according to the tfl website, buses have more than 10 seats can use them. So I am still confused. Bottom line is, the way they use it is so sneaky, they only seem to want to get in it when there is traffic in front. That suggests they might not be allowed to use it, but what do I know?

I witnessed some erratic and dangerous driving from a Murphy tipper this morning on Camden Road.
Emailed a complaint, received this back shortly after:
"Dear Mr ********
Thank you for your email and I am sorry that you have had to contact us. I have passed your email to our Driver Safety Awareness Officer for a reply. Please let me know if you do not get a response.
Best Regards"

The problem I find with riding in primary when I don't want to be overtaken is half the time the motorist takes even more risks to overtake me. I assumed it today through a tight, twisting section of road with road islands for peds and a bus still overtook me in a narrow section (although at least he did fully leave the lane to do so) before pulling over 5 seconds later at a bus stop. Immediately after, approaching a roundabout, just after coming past a traffic island and avoiding the park cars on my left, a car accelerated and passed me at high speeds despite oncoming traffic, jagging back to the left before I had been cleared to avoid a collision. The motorist then turned left and I overtook her again while she waited at the lights. I gave the car a sharp rap on the window as I passed, out of frustration but also to illustrate the pointlessness of her dangerous manouver. We both turned right, I think she sprayed her windscreen as she passed me as a lame tit for tat as I got a couple of sprinkles. I passed her again later on as the traffic clogged up and undoubtedly got to where I was going a lot quicker than her.
It's the impatience I don't understand: why the hurry if you're about to pull over at a bus stop, or about to go through a roundabout or approaching traffic lights.
I'd quite like a helmet cam now. After that farcical video from the LTDA I think it's important that cyclists create a counter-narrative highlighting the daily dangerous driving they encounter on even a short commute.
Yours,
Frustrated in Bristol

^^ That impatience will never cease to amaze me. FFS, some days it feels like every bastard imbecile and his bastard brother is out driving.
Three times today some plank pulled out in front of me, in to the lane I was taking, the cycle lane or cycle super highway, apparently to get ahead of the traffic queue. One idiot honked at me to move out of his way even though I was in a right filter lane and he was going straight on. When I didn't, he stepped on the gas and squeezed past me only to meet a red light.
Actually I think the last time it happened, just now on Peckham High Street, was because the ditzy mare was distracted by the crowd of school kids gathered outside the 'Grand Opening' of a new Morleys...
...So yeah, paging I Am Hingis - half price chicken today!
Or should that be our pager fanboy, Hatbeard? ;)
Didn't stop to ask if they were free-range chooks though.

^ that would be another offence for which the driver gets punished, not paid, replaced by whoever is willing to do it
the crime would have to be on the part of management for e.g. knowingly allowing an unfit vehicle on the road, policies that are incompatible with safe/legal driving etc
-
• #4119
^^^ Re helmet camera's, and a narrative, I have been wondering recently if it would it be possible to send footage of dangerous to their insurer - maybe that might gain more attention since the Police seem entirely unwilling to act

I think that's what Jeez was getting at. Corporate manslaughter/corporate punishment so they can't just parachute another driver into the same situation when a current one gets banned/banged up.

Tibb's literally does still have a working pager. that boy is a baller.

There is a definite element I find that a motorist sees a bike and everything becomes secondary to getting past that cyclist, whatever the road conditions.

Is there a way to find out the insurer of a driver from a number plate?
-
• #4125
The police can, don't know if it's possible for anyone else though.
Definitely too close, far too close.
Report + contact the business? It's astounding what people will do when they're emblazoned with traceable details. Shame the po po don't give a monkeys.
