If we don't get a date in the diary for the next jaunt to the continent, it isn't going to happen, so I'm going to make some suggestions. The weekend of the 18/19 August would be great for me, as the kids will be away, can we get some names on a list? Vello, Coppi, Kuba, BQ, VanUden...anyone really
Sorry guys, this one will be without me, I have family visiting from France at this time, I'm stuck in London.

That would clash with the Herne Bay ride, which I was thinking about going on
http://www.lfgss.com/thread79718.htmlBut if a better alternative doesn't come to light I am in.

I might struggle with an alternative, due to childcare, but happy to try if there are other suggestions.

I think we need to ensure this has been made available...

I have been worried with my motorbike which is why I was not suggesting dates for our trip (recurrent fork leak, it kept leaking even after I had it checked and had the joints replaced, the legs are straight and the chrome surface is fine, mystery, very annoying... a friend of mine in france has sold replacment refurbished forks which I'm about to install)
I should be all sorted soon but it looks dates are hard to find...Whatabout september?

Aug 18/19 is the weekend of an event in Bordeaux called 'Euro Kat' no prizes for guessing the bikes they'll be showcasing. I was going to go down to this but I'm flexible and haven't committed to the Euro Kat show although I would like to see a field full of Katanas. I might never leave.
Am open to suggestion, either way would love to do a trip to France on the Kat this year with some like-minded motorcyclists!

Everyone is complaining. So its my turn:
August it tight for me. I am going California Superbike and going to watch BSB in Cadwell Park.
I vote for September.
(p.s. Aug 18/19 is doable although my GF will hate me).

Any recommendations for a good place to take your bike to for a service in south or south east London? It's an old Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere. Cheers!

You've only posted that because your bike is one of the selected ones! hehe!

Have decided to try these guys after reading a bit of positive feedback online and the fact that they're fairly local.

Dropped the bike off earlier, will report back.

OK, Euro Kat over Aug 18/19 is going to take more days and cost more than I was planning on. So a short trip away is the preferred option. This means:

- VanUden
Anymore for anymore?

Mine incidentally is still awaiting the arrival of a flyscreen before they start fixing it.
I am getting impatient.
The flyscreen wasn't even fucking damaged. -

Who knows the law regarding riding an untaxed and unmoted bike to the test centre?
I have bought a bike on eBay and it's not got either of these things. I think if I book it in for an mot I can ride it to the centre. As far as I know it's meant to be ridden to your local/the closest test centre but I would book it in to the centre closest to my home, which is about 15/20 miles from where the bike is currently located so I'll probably ride past several test centres on my way to the one where I'll book it into. Im pretty sure I can blag that if I get stopped.
Seller says it'll go straight through an mot you never know so if it fails I'll need to ride it home, that'll be totally illegal I think but by booking into the test centre that I will, it's almost just round the corner so should be alright. Unless the test centre done the po-po.
Sound like a sensible plan or have I got the laws completely wrong?

You can ride it to the test centre (make sure you make an appointment.) No problem to ride it back if it fails.
You might get picked up by ANPR for no tax but they should let that slide if you can demonstrate you were only on the way to/from the MOT.

You still need to be taxed, no? Otherwise you can't be insured? May have that wrong.

You must be insured.
Other than that you don't need MoT or tax, but the appointment must be pre-booked.
There is no legal requirement to go to the nearest test centre. You can go to whichever is most convenient to you.
If it fails it is still perfectly legal to ride it home, and it is legal to ride it to places for the purpose of having MoT failure points fixed.
I'm guessing there is a time limit (perhaps the free re-test limit) but I don't know. -

Cool I should be covered via the policy I have on my Harley.
Got a mate with a van who I'm waiting to hear from anyway but if not I'll just book it in. Mot fee is less than a couple hours van hire anyway.

Careful with 'other bikes' cover. It usually means 'other bikes that you don't own'
-
• #2574
Hmmm, vanning it might be easier then. Grrr.

You're buying it, right? Just insure it now.
