  • Training Day tomorrow, Mod 2 Friday.
Girlfriend coming from sweden saturday hopefully I will get to take her for a ride on the back of the bike as well.

there's no back seat on your bobber how's the girlfriend going to go for a ride with you?

  • This is the 125 I can take her on that, but realising I don't have a helmet for her etc I'm putting the idea on hold until I get something more suitable.

Bike is for sale btw if anyone is after one.
Putting on gumtree for £750 but £620 for the forum.

  • Bargainous. If I was in London I'd be very tempted to have it off you, I've been wanting something like to chop up for a while but alas, I'm about 400 miles away.

  • I Picked it up and rode it back 200 Miles when I got it, looking back probably not the smartest idea but it was fine.
Ok now i'm having trouble trying to get insurance on my bike as I've only had my licence a day.
Maybe I should answer no it's not modified....

  • Insurance is ridic at the mo.

£368 to insure my 2009 883cc HD Sporty valued at £5k for the year, thought it was getting a bit much so considered selling and getting something smaller, like a £500 1990 Kawasaki 125cc trailly, which would have made the insurance a whole £50 cheaper!

  • The 125 was like £120 for the year (third party) which was good.
The bobber I only paid £400 for , I get the feeling insurance will be the same.

  • "no its not modified" will open up a whole new can of worms if anything happens.

  • Is that road-legal? Love it.

  • ^^That Ducati Darmah might be my old one, I had it for years and sold it to a mate on the basis that I had first offer if he ever sold it on. His dad had retired and he wanted to give him a project. He fully restored it, then sold it without telling me!
It was a tough bike to ride though, lovely engine, but the handling was not what you might expect, it was dreadful at slow speed, and even at high speed to had to learn to trust it. But the sound, Oh my, that video doesn't tell half of the story.

  • furious tiles what have you done!? wait until bluequin sees that vespa. he needs that in his life :-)

adroit, there's a darmah for sale on the bay at the moment. i love the sound. could something not have been done to balance out the weight or is it just a design fault that couldn't be corrected?

    You know me too well!

  • Got lots of insurance options today stating the modifications to the bike everything from £190 to £800 for third party only. I guess it does pay to shop around.
Deciding between Bennets and Bikesure at the moment.

  • scrapper, have you tried carol nash and how old is your bike?

  • My chop is insured through Carol Nash at a good price

  • I used to swear by 'Wicked Quotes' - although they tried to stop me being covered for commuting last renewal.

Wow, that is identical, not in the least tempted though. My one was OK if you wanted a high speed hard cornering ride, but you could never pussy foot about.
It wasn't all that quick either, not compared to modern bikes, I think my bike now has well over twice the power, a lot less weight, and is pretty easy to ride by comparison.
Happy days though, I had a lot of fun on it.

  • My 125 is through Carol Nash, However they said they couldn't cover me because I hadn't had my licence long enough to ride this type of bike. They are the only one has said this though.
Think I will go through bike sure as they insured my first 125 that was a hardtail without any issues as well.

  • oh life...
So I got the insurance all sorted out and at a good price.
However after running fine last week my bike decided it doesn't want to start any more.
Spark plug cleaned, New fuel , New Oil , Left the battery charging today in the hope that works as it had enough juice for the lights but maybe not enough to bring the bike back to life after hibernation.

  • fuel tap

  • neutral switch

  • fuel tap - will check that as well.
neutral switch - it's 1981 Kawasaki I don't think it has anything fancy like that.
Printing off the pdf of the manual at work... shhhh

  • carburettor jets.

check you are getting a spark it might be the ht leads

see if it will bump start

does it turn over but just not fire

    the timing might be out

get a jump start if possible

take the battery to your local mechanic so that they can do a 'drop test' on it

  • Tried bump starting didn't work, but I gave up quickly as I have a bruised rib.
Just Printed out a step by step guide with photos on how to clean this carburettor.
Timing etc I have no idea and would have to take it to someone.

It fired this morning but I think I was in shock and didn't pull the throttle enough to let
it really kick in then it wouldn't start again.

But overall seems to turn just not fire.
