Noted!
I do have a tendency to run high pressures normally though.....I like to have little rolling resistance.
What sort of psi is good then? -
• #2753
doh .. i always get these, out riding on a tues, so wrong !
apologiesNo worries.....I didn't take offence :0)
I've been used to trails using my ti airborne, which is excellent on the flat, straight stuff, but too 'stretched out' for the technical stuff......hence, I suck a fat one at the tricky bits.
I aim to use the transition and my recent 2.5 stone weight loss ( thanks to L'eroica training!) to good use.......when mtb'ing started in '86 or so, my parents live in Waltham abbey, so I was pretty good on the muddy, roots stuff......I need to rediscover what the old muddy fox and Marin palisades could do effortlessly! -

On a 2.1 - 2.3" tyre I tend to run about 36-37 psi rear & 32-33 front. I am quite heavy though & run inner tubes too.

Tubeless I use sub 30 Psi
Have gone down to nearly 20 on the front, traction is more important than rolling resistance

Lower pressures can allow you to go faster on rough terrain.*thinkireaditsomewhereontheinternetonce

Beep!
All you 29ers out there (plural)
(not 29er's - that is possessive)
-

Curious question, any short/ish guys here ride 29ers? i'm about 5'6'', only ever ridden 26ers before
-
• #2760
I don't know how tall Smallfurry is? He rides a small framed 29er.
-
• #2761
I think this is his.
-
• #2762
Looks a bit 'bulky' to ride, hmmm
-
• #2763
Cool.... I'll experiment. Trouble is, I have to ride from my house to these trails. I don't like the feeling of the tyres grabbing. I'll give it 50, and take a pump!
-
• #2764
I'm 5' 7" how may I help you sir?
-
• #2765
Just curious what it is like to ride a 29er if your not tall, to me it just looks awkward
-
• #2766
Definitely is, with hydraulic tyre brake.

very much a personal preference, but I find it roll nicer over obstacle that I otherwise would choose my line more carefully on a 26ers, I actually find 29ers more forgiving than 26ers.
It also carried speed better, but this is all IMO.

id get something rigid with narrower not so knobby tyres, not sure that would make a difference
-
• #2769
If you've got disc brakes then you could probably fit 700c wheels with some cyclo cross tyres.
-
• #2770
If you can ride 26er then you can ride 29er. You just adapt to the change.
-
• #2771
26" frame with 700c wheels.
-
• #2772
Basically an OTP hybrid with a higher BB then.
-
• #2773
If you're used to running proper sized tyres on a 26" there's very little difference. Allows you to use an existing bike as well.
-
• #2774
I just remembered that the next bike for me should be a TT bike.

I think this is his.
Not set up though.
The important thing is whether the geometry is comprimised for the small size, and wether the wheelbase is large compared to your saddle to bar distance.
The Spotbrand works well in a small.
If I was going with suspension. I'd have probably gone 26", and squeezed out some more travel for my stack.
