I think it's too fast.

Having to use html formatting to post! And multiquote doesn't work! This might be due to using IE6 on a friend's ultraslow computer, though, and therefore unrelated to the server move.
EDIT: Tried ctrl+f5 with no joy... :(
EDIT: Firefox isn't any better. Will have another go tomorrow.

Advanced mode reply... I wonder whether you did CTRL+F5? You should do it on any page that gives you trouble.

• #83
i have a mac dearie. any mode reply, no text/link buttons work.
-
• #84
Well, how do you force refresh a page on one of those wonderful white objects with smooth edges? However you do that, that's what you need to do.
-
• #85
those work, it's just the "quick reply" area??
-
• #86
You need to force refresh on a page that has whatever is broken on it.
I've checked all of the files, and they're ok. But yesterday for a few hours I was sending out junk that if you still have it cached would be a problem.

looks like our web filter is blocking https as well.
[edit] on and off. One gets through and then the next does not.
-
• #88
That is bad... https was supposed to help there.
Can you edit your hosts file? If so you can put the domain name in there, the transport will be IP based, and the SSL will ensure encryption.
Let me know whether you can edit it, and if so I'll give you the details you'll need.

ah, good it's all working now

VB; can't edit the system or my pc at all. User changes are barred. In any event, the Websense filter operates at a different level than on the pc. It may be that, given a few days, the filter will acknowledge the site but until then it will be slow and very hard to post. I have tried to post this a number of times!

Blimey, that one worked - probably because I copied the content of the post so that it wouldn't be lost - the umbrella theory.

All seems to be working for me and my antique web browser now. Cheers VB!

OK, So I've now got the backup in place.
Back will occur between 2am and 3:30am.
As backup involves dumping the databases, and then synchronising all servers before finally uploading up to 8GB of data to 2 different locations... well, I'm not going to promise a highly responsive forum at those kinds of hours in the morning.
If you happen to be on the West coast of the USA whilst accessing the forum, bear in mind that your late evening is when we do the backup and so it will be slow around that time. Interestingly we have more Aussies than West coast Americans, so this works for me and is less risky than trying to time it with Australia and having the start of the European day ramp up.
Backups are daily for everything, and then we additionally keep snapshots of the database (though if we have to roll to backup older than a day I cannot guarantee we have all attachments as only the daily snapshot of those is kept (storage costs would ruin me).
The backup data is replicated to 2 different data centres in Switzerland.

Good work, David... My head hurts just thinking about all the
geekerywork involved... ;] -

^use tinfoil . never fails!

After two days of frustration, I can now access this site without going through a web filter. My computer has, however, decided to become very slow and frustrate me more generally. I am getting a new one this afternoon and then, hopefully, it will be back to normal.

Anyone else seeing problems with the SJS banners? Is it something from the server move?

You just know I'm going to fix that ;)
Though that is the default banner that comes up when no matches in the SJS catalog have been found that relate to the thread title or text from the first post.
Blimey. REALLY fast now.
