  • 504 is not awesome

  • hmm... this nginx configuration is though.

  • Oh yeah... this I'm liking.

  • This feels lovely. Rapid :-)

  • picture upload working but no image preview!

  • are we back on [strike]fixie[/strike]track?

  • fffff

  • i can post now.

earlier i could not post , kept saying the message was too short and the message box buttons were also not working. I have PM'd you V so so i don't know if you did something.

  • I've been doing lots... but I think as of a very short while ago that I'm done.

I've switched from HAProxy to Nginx as lord knows how to configure HAProxy to avoid 504's. Which is weird as that's what we experienced with Nginx several months ago and is why I'd moved to HAProxy.

Either way... it's working now, and I've fixed all of the JavaScript (double-compressed) and other stuff.

The simple line: It's working now, I'm genuinely sorry it wasn't earlier... if you're still having trouble hit CTRL+F5 to force refresh anything corrupt I'd sent to your browser.

  • Thank fuck. I thought I was going to have to do something productive tonight.

  • nice one V, i just wanted you to know what was happening so you could fix it.

  • Thanks for letting me know :)

I knew what was broken, but at the time not how to fix it. Had a deluge of "can't log in", "can't post" and other stuff like that... but figured it out in the end.

  • Bugger. The new server is blocked by my office filter.

  • https:// should work for you

  • I'll try that in the morning. Thanks.

  • Nice one, VB. Definite improvement in speed compared to the last couple of weeks. Awesome.

  • Yeah, the old host were starting to suffer and so were we.

Anyhow... server porn, take a look at this!:

And that lot is cheaper than what we were paying.

Though I have to admit... that diagram doesn't yet show backup servers!

  • Inaccurate representation of the internet. A cloud??

  • Got nothing but DB errors on http, got slow as lazy snails on https, losing formatting on posts with http when I do get it to work (switch editor mode button not working)

All in all, disgusted, frustrated, hurt and dejected.

  • I was getting some database errors earlier, as well. It probably still has to settle in a bit. A few small differences to before but nothing major. When it works, posting feels very fast; when it doesn't, as Rob says, there's still a few hang-ups.

  • Yeah, not enough RAM on the database server... it died. I reconfigured it to bring it back up but I need to stop the machine to put RAM in so it will die again in a moment.

  • site is fast as greased lightening, great stuff VB..

  • And... more RAM in the db server.

  • Good work, David--really fast now.
