Not sure how that was related to changing the domain name...

yeah sorry, wasn't very clear - i think it comes up with "connection interrupted" then definitely comes up with "the network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." hope this is of some help.

honestly, all this "stuff" that happens to get the site up and running is so massively "out there" as far as my understanding of it all.
It's fucking unbelievable, i for one salute you for knowing how it all works and implementing it.
it amazes me because i am absolutely clueless how anything works beyond my Windows 7 "Control Panel"

Now I've done the first part of the server move, the domain name can be queued up... the next part of the server move is to migrate from www.londonfgss.com to www.lfgss.com
The domain name is changing pretty much solely to make it piss easy to type on a mobile.
I haven't yet decided whether it should be lfgss.com or www.lfgss.com , both will work but one will be the primary thing and I'm currently in favour of dropping the www. bit and making lfgss.com be the whole URL (shortness is good for things like twitter, emails, etc).
you know, I use lfgss on my mobile, but the link never bother me since it only take a quick google 'lfgss' to get to the forum.
just thought I'd mention that.

There's a huge difference between the mobile version of the site and the full one, which lots of phones wouldn't cope with or it just wouldn't be usable.
Also "google.com" followed by "lfgss" is more to type than "m.lfgss.com" - not all phones remember addresses or do bookmarks. (Both "google" and "lfgss" aren't ideal names for phones though, having consecutive letters on the same key. I doubt Google are going to change their name because of that any time soon though)
I guess my point is what's handy for someone isn't always handy for everyone else.

Set yourself up as a consultant and charge them millions to find that out. :)

If anyone was wondering what that was... basically DNS lookups were failing on the database server, and all connections to the database server were being queued with most timing out. The result was everything went very slow.
Answer was over here:
http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?30,27073,27090#msg-27090Adding skip-name-resolve to my.cnf avoids the needless DNS lookup and everything is flying again.

What sucks is that even with this grand new server farm, the single point of failure is the master database server... and that was the one thing that failed.
I'm looking forward to distributed NoSql databases to solve this shit.

Hmm, all sounds a bit organic/self-evolving to me. I see the start of something dark here, with us being 'farmed' at the end of it.
Merry Christmas everybody, including the near-sentient computer systems.
