  • Mine is black, except for pedals and bars and seat post.... Consider to replace them with black ones too, to make the job complete.

Started to build a beater. So far it is all grey/silver, except for saddle and tyres. But they don't count. :)

  • Surly steamroller ordered today (finally!!). Can't wait.

May look into getting some riser bars for this as well. Can anyone recommend one for this bike?

  • any risers will do, just make sure you get the right clamp size (25.4mm or 1 1/8")

  • I'd love to see a gallery of all our steamrollers.
Is there a way to view only images on a thread?

Thats not a bad idea, how about a flickr group instead?

Thanks for the info. Will post pictures once I've received it.

  • ^^
modern straps with flats on a daily commuter are in my opinion better because they allow you to use normal shoes while being efficient enough.

What is the cheapest option for this type of velcro strap that can go through flat pedals - need some. This model seem a bit dear though. Ta.

  • Hello people, finally got my steamroller rolling this week, here she is...

Bars look a bit uppety in the pic, but it's comfy so i think it'll stay as is

Hah! You copied me with removing the decals. Except that you kept the head badge. :-)
    Looks all nice.

And, had the same drops setup too: Have a fake brake lever mounted to the bars with no particular function...
Swapped one with a bell some time later.
Confuses some road participants well when expecting me to brake, they just hear the bell instead. :))
Looks shit all together too, but the setup works for me..

  • Yea the dummy lever thing is good i reckon, nice hand postion.. next bit is a hub dynamo and lights

  • That's true. Must have had the same idea at the beginning of my setup. Although, quite liking the idea, I still removed one since the rear brake was never properly used and the left over just showed to be an unused part that will eventually go broken.
Which means for me, that I can't really pull that well on the top.. So have started to pull on the drops. Works better, imho. Especially for fast accelerations and quick sprints up to the top of the hill.
Your body will explode with all that power. :-)

Still, there are those lazy days..

    Tagged mine there, too

  • Finally the steamroller has arrived.

They left out a few bolts on the front wheel, also looks like I'm going to have to cut the fork as well. Not to worry. I'm very surprised on how light the bike is compared to my geared hybrid.

Waiting for the pedals to arrive by post, screw on the brakes, good to go.

Can't wait for my maiden voyage................

sounds like you got a very heavy hybrid...

  • Went out on the maiden voyage with the surly today for a short ride to the shop. I must say that riding fixed is something completely new to me. I also realised how much I coast when riding. Nearly came a cropper at the traffic lights when I forgot to keep pedalling.

    Picture to come soon.

    There are light weight hybrids?
Once had one that weighed 18.5 kg.
Lovely nuke proof steel frame it was. With steel cranks, bars, everything!
Once, it fell over and the bar managed to chip into the concrete floor.
Since then I would call it Panzer (German name for tanks).
Acceleration was like pushing a lorry, but once you had momentum...

Anyway, felt so happy the day it broke down and decided to dump it..

  • There can only be one Panzerwagen
