Where do people buy their records from?
Discogs, ebay - any others?I check the artist / band's site / their bandcamp or their label, then discogs / my local record stores' discogs (can't go in person because of the rona), then whatever online store / amazon.

@Yukirin got a link to your shop?
I'll send you a link so I don't cause an issue with advertising on here.
This time last year my full time job was pretty dire so launched this with a plan to relive my Virgin Megastore years. Doom, Stoner, Fuzz niche - Heavy Psych Sounds, Blues Funeral etc. Then'rona happened and now I'm over worked in my "real job" (selling fitness equipment) and a 1yo killing the nights so havnt been able to grow the site as I'd have liked.
I'm not much of a creative writer so the plan for the blog side was to focus more on live music, start doing photography again, promote the site at gigs and do a pop up shop... Anyway, year 1 of the 5 year plan has gone surprisingly well considering. Not a huge inventory but it's growing and we have some more distros lined up for when I have more investment available.

Send me a link to your shop as well, would like to take a look!

Thanks for the link, like the website. I'll be honest I've not bought a metal album for many years. Would be tempted with the Deftones one tho and the Elder album on your best of the year list looks cool. Wish you the best of luck , looks like you've got that niche/genres nicely covered. The plan for pics and live music sounds interesting, I'd also just throw it out there that I really enjoy getting mailing list emails from record shops, would sign up to yours if you had one, just for the variety.

Thanks for checking it out! Planning to start a label again maybe next year, both merch and vinyl... Lots of plans but covid gonna covid for now.
I get a small allocation of marketing emails per month with the web package which is another area to get sorted yet... They're sporadic at best atm.
The Elder album is awesome, check out their older stuff too! -

Realising you can't find your copy of Selected Ambient Works vol 2 on vinyl, and the horrific feeling you may have sold it, and then realising they go for £2-400 now.
Fuck.

Good luck buying 90's vinyl. That ship has sailed and crossed the horizon. Good news is there's nothing wrong with some of the represses.

That's one of many hundreds I gave away (not even sold, gave) to Record Rescue when I moved onto a boat, in the belief that I'd never buy vinyl again. Try not to think about it too much as I now spend thousands rebuilding what I gave away for nix...

Hmm, I think there may be a copy of this in my parents' loft ...

Well, good news! Random phone call with a mate and I mentioned my grief about the record - turns out I leant it to him, rather than sold it to someone (who promised to get me the cash when he had it, never came obviously).
Sadly it doesn’t look like I’ll ever get back half of AFX’s hangable auto bulb EP. £75 now.
Time to look forward and not back. Trying to get hold of old records I’ve misplaced along the way seems like it will be a depressing and expensive endeavour.
Just had a look at getting the Artificial Intelligence vol 1 compilation. I’ve got vol 2 already. But at £80, I’m unlikely to get the full set!

@nefarious - I had to sell a load of my precious vinyl when my business had cashflow issues and i had to pay the mortgage years ago. I almost have all of it back and have spent £150 - £250 for several 12"s. When they crop up (which is a rare occurrence) I buy them on PP credit and spread the payments over 4 months, it is easier to stomach that way.

When I setup my TT I initially did the same, looked for all my favourite records on vinyl, was shocked at the cost, and spent days contemplating spending £60-100 a pop on near mint copies.
But after a while I came to the same realisation as you and ended up just getting stuff I've not heard before. The main benefit of vinyl to me is that buying physical media makes me search for music, while streaming just leads me to lazily put on the same stuff over and over.

Same here, always thrilled to find something that I didn't know before and sounds so nice on vinyl. I'm not a 'junkie' as in: spending loads of money on rare stuff and digging crates every weekend. Older music I don't have on vinyl I just keep streaming while on the look out for a bargain via second hand sources, no hurry.

Where's the best place to sell vinyl? Having just moved I've realised I don't really listen to many anymore. I'm also finding it hard to justify the expense of new releases when I can download them from Bandcamp for a fraction of the price.

You could list what you’ve got on here..?

I fear judgement. My taste is pretty mundane.

That is a shared fear :)

Just pretend you're only shifting the mundane stuff you have doubles of :)

I started developing my vinyl collection only last month, I've now amassed duplicates of the following DeAgostini reissues of some jazz classics (all unplayed, 180g, some sealed). Let me know if you are interested in swaps. These are very decent pressings (unlike those by DOL, for instance).
Current list includes:
- Dexter Gordon "Go"
- Duke Ellington, Max Roach, Charlie Mingus "Money Jungle"
- Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto "Getz/Gilberto"
- Eric Dolphy "Out to lunch"
- Miles "Sketches of Spain"
Also selling:
- Unkle live "On the Road: Koko" 3LP (clear vinyl) sealed - £45
- UZEB "R3union Live" 2LP (sealed) - £20
- Primal Scream "Rocks/Funky Jam" rare promo 7" etched, no label - Sold
- The Jesus & Mary Chain "Blues from a Gun" EP - £5
- Dexter Gordon "Go"

Nice list of Jazz classics there, probably all in or around the top ten all time. I have copies but it might be useful to potential buyers if you list the catalogue number.

I’d be interested in 1, 6 & 7

No problem.
I'll send you a PM.

Received a nice freebie in the package alongside something I ordered from Discogs, a decent condition copy of Signing Off by UB40. Always hated them back in the 80s (Rat in mi Kitchen etc.), but this album is great.
Had a look at those 100 albums. I've bought well over 300 records this year, only 1 on that list! I had seen another 10 covers and heard 8. That's taking into account receiving about a dozen pre-release emails a day.
It really brings it home how vast the amount of music being released is.
FWIW, I wondered where Sault - Rise, Lianne La Havas and Cleo Sol were on that list because they've been popular. Was the list made in June?
