  • I've cleaned with tap water without issue. Other water opinions may be available.

  • Deionised and demineralised is preferable. Lack of minerals is the more important of the 2, so essentially distilled. However cleaning them with deionised is better than not cleaning them.

You can get distilled from a pet shop that deals with tropical fish or some window cleaners.

You can follow some of the recipes. I use 40% rubbing alcohol, 60% water and a few drops of Tergitol and the same of a surfactant whose name I've forgotten. Followed by a rinse with pure water.

  • Wow... 😂

  • As you're not in a lockdown right now you're probably not going through your 45's examining them with a loupe :)

For those of us having a quiet tier 4 christmas we don't want it ruined by the sound of minerals from our tap water.

Hope you've had a good one so far

Something that I've not found to be an issue so far.

  • A word of warning for anyone thinking of buying vinyl from International Anthem via Bandcamp.
They list items shipped within seven days, however my purchases from 4 December still haven't shipped. I emailed them, and they can't tell me when my purchases will be shipped.

Shame, as I love the label and had hoped to support them and their artists more by buying vinyl from Bandcamp.

  • My tongue was firmly in my cheek :)

In fairness the concern about leaving minerals from tap water on 'clean' records is probably more of an issue in some hard water areas, the kind of places where you can see the solid content in a glass of water for example.

  • I spent some of my Christmas lay-off cleaning vinyls. Very satisfying. And very efficient at getting rid of clicks and pops.
And once cleaned up the look of a shiny record is just 👌

There have been massive delays in pressing vinyl generally recently. I have had loads of stuff delayed by weeks. Fliptrix's new album on High Focus turned up today and was due in early November.

  • It looks like some machines that are already on the market for 10x the price. Maybe they'll get the engineering right but it's a heady mix of water and electricity.

One of the problems with the machines aimed at the 12" market is the lack of a 7" option and 7" are some of the dirtiest in my experience. Partly because they're very often in deteriorating paper sleeves.

It's probably worth a punt but the bigger tank with the 3d printed wheel parts is probably just as good for a £100 more and available almost immediately.

I like the fact that they will make it fit on a record shelf. If they get it working under £1k it will be popular.

  • Distributors had a big rush leading up to christmas and then took a big break. In the UK they came back to new rules so I think suppliers have had a job keeping up with demand.

I think stocks are coming through again but will have to see which countries can keep operating factories. It's GZ Media who have been pressing a lot of the recent crop and they are back to their old ways. Optimal it depends on who's paying and how much. Pallas are quiet but they might be having problems getting acetates. GZ Media are DMM so they don't have that problem.

French pressings are a small part of the rest of the market. Even high end labels like Analogue Productions are having problems delivering due to warehouse concerns.

The new Blue Notes keep coming through though.

Last thing we need is more pressure on GZ Media, they will just rush and ruin pressings.

  • @Airhead - It looks like there is a 7" adaptor available (scroll right down to 'stretch goals'

  • That does make it more interesting, they seem like a bright bunch. Does it seem likely to deliver in summer? I'm tempted to have a punt.

  • @Airhead - yes, summer delivery is planned by the look of it, but being involved in R& D myself I wouldn't bank on it!! It is tempting

  • One of the bands I was supposed to be stocking were due to drop some albums off late Sept... They still havnt arrived and now having a delay in the sleeve printing. I hope those that ordered directly through bandcamp are understanding for them.

  • @Yukirin - I agree, stick with the artists and labels, it has been tough enough for them recently.

  • Ten times the price? It's only £240, are you sure you read the sterling amount.

It looks pretty good to me, still expensive for what it is but seems to be a well thought out solution.

I kind of thought it would've already been talked about on here but seems not.

  • Yeah, I'm sure.! I was thinking of the degritter which is £2.5k.

It looks good but will it get delivered?

  • Where do people buy their records from?
    Discogs, ebay - any others?

I'm slightly worried that I've just fallen into a rather expensive hobby. Albeit one that will greatly enhance my listening habits/choices.

  • rather expensive hobby

    ^this

Buy from all over the place support the independents etc also Bandcamp.

Try https://www.seismicrecords.co.uk/ worth signing up to Stuarts mailing list. Nice write ups and varied selection. Top bloke also.

  • Generally in this order if I can't get it via my own store:

    1: direct from artist
    2: direct from label
3: specialist online store (evil greed etc)
    4: discogs

  • Seismic have this site linked also https://www.loverecordstores.com/ might find a shop local to you, the scrolling on the 100 albums of the year page has given me an instant headache tho.

@Yukirin got a link to your shop?

  • Cheers all.
Trying to source a copy of Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will by Mogwai. It came out about 10 years ago, not many copies kicking about.

So looks like it’ll be £30~, which takes it into the considered purchase category!

whoa that's the most annoying website I have seen in a long time, fuck
