  • Greggs obtained.

First reactions: the icing sugar on top gives you a very sweet hit as you inhale to take the first bite. The disc format is a winner, for me, Clive. I don't like huge pastry cups filled with a smear of mincemeat. The pastry is a bit basic. Could be more buttery and less cardboardy. Overall very nice though.

    7/10.

  • They are good. But as I'm coeliac I've no other choice.

  • Greggs mince pies are dairy free. BOOM!

  • So glad they exist.

  • WHAT!!? Fuck yeh! Going down now.

  • If anyone is on the Xmas lights ride tonight, Simon is packing said mince pies

  • Much as it pains me to say it I have to give it to Tesco at the moment on the mince-pie front.

Also, DO NOT get the blackcurrant and Cassis ones from Saino's thinking "what's the worst that can happen?"

I can only agree - although we have some home-made frangipane bastard jobbies cooling on the worktop as I speak.

  • Riverford.

    Close thread please.

  • Lidl deluxe ones - with their brandy butter - oh yes. For a shop-bought pie, smashing. Really really boozy. Not too sweet.

  • Sainsburys generic mince pies: 5/10

Nothing to write home about. Not terrible, exactly but not amazing. Pastry doesn't really taste of much, ungenerous filling. Barely any crunchy sugar bits on the surface. They do have a tidy holly arrangement on the top, so that's something I guess.

  • Does anyone actually like mince pies that much though?

  • I had some homemade mince pies the other day, made by an acquaintance. Very nice, complete with pastry shapes on the mince made by her children. 8/10

  • Definitely yes.

Not as much as Xmas pudding though. That's probably the best bit of the festive season.

  • Mince pies are loads better than xmas pudding!

  • xmas pudding with brandy butter and cream beats mince pies any day

  • xmas pudding the next day - take a slice and fry it in butter then top with brandy butter.. EPlC

    ohhhhhhhh

  • You're welcome. (I take no responsibility for any ensuing heart attack).

  • Got a source for that?

  • Is this the Christmas pudding thread now? Stay on brief people.

  • Haha, sorry..
