Greggs have them on special right now too, get two packs (10 pies) for £2.50 or something. They are the best mince pies I've had recently, and don't fall apart at first bite.

have managed to stay off the mince pies this week after gorging last week. Reading this thread doesn't help much though.

Greggs correction: £1.50/pack, £2.00 for 2, delicious bargain. A bit like Primark or Poundland, though, took a surrepstitious look in either direction in case anyone I know could see me.......

This is outrageous. I just paid £2.20 for two packs in Hackney Central. Where were they £2? I assume £2.50 was in Central.

OH MY GOD, finally.
Made my first mince pie of the season.
I give myself 6/10 for execution, but its pretty fucking tasty.
Changes for next time:
- Roll out the dough, need consistency in thickness- the press and go method is not so good.
- MOAR mincemeat (I wasn't sparing this time, but you know- more!)
- Don't eat the mincemeat whilst cooking. I feel like death.

Scenic Eastbourne, where all you can hear is the gentle ticking of pacemakers. Probably a false economy to commute for Greggs savings!

£2.50 was because I forgot what I paid, but it was in Sunny Welwyn Garden City, I'll storm in there tomorrow and buy some more, just to see what they cost me.

And so you can stuff your face with mince pie goodness.

• #335
argh, you got me. I actually bought the two packs for my colleagues, but they fucked me off so much that day that I took all those mincey little fuckers home and guzzled them myself.

I have the day off tomorrow, so I'm going to make some. I have been trying to make a mince crumble work in my mind, but it's hard to keep it as individual portions you can hold in your hand, any suggestions would be welcome. Bun cases, or shorcrust base with crumble topping are the best so far

Marzipan topping.

• #338
Now that is just perverse

Its amazing, is what it is... Or just make the pie as normal. Cut some marzipan into stars, bake them till golden brown, and place on top of pie.

The discovery of Greggs may dissuade She Who Must Be Obeyed from baking any this year, even the dogs have to be bribed to eat her produce.... 5 different brands tried to date, will soon be a natural descender.

Got some luxury ones from Abel and Cole to tuck into over the weekend. They are pretty hefty

So who on this tread actually makes mince pies?
Can we have a meet up to have a mince pie off at a pub somewhere? losers who don't have the skills can bring some from Greggs but they will have to sit at a separate table.
In.
Homemade mincemeat only. None of this jarred shit.

Get. To. Fuck.

Marzipan has a place. And that is on Christmas cake.
I tried Sainsbury's puff pastry pies. Why?
You forgot value for money. Cheaper than most too.
