  • Went for the cheaper Co-op option with the drunk cream. Cream nice, pies not so much. Will have to expand gut pie search region.

  • still not got to a Greggs :(

  • Will they actually sell to people without overalls on?

  • Tried a Gail's mince pie on Friday and they have taken it to the next level in my opinion.

Mince - Plentiful & of high quality, on the fruitier side.
Pastry - Glazed like a pork pie, sweet but not too sweet, doesn't crumble when it is not supposed too.
    Price - i didn't purchase so can't comment.

    4.7/5

  • Pret a Manger mince pie - not really a 'pie' too deep and too crumbly no discernible alcohol taste - not unpleasant but not what I was after - 5/10

  • Four mince pies in 24hrs. My farts are rancid.

I'm up to 3 so far in 24hrs, and that doesn't include the copious amounts of mincemeat I ate from the jar when making them.

A mince pie for breakfast is a great way of getting your 5-a-day.

  • Surely you measure it in 6-packs per day? #amateurs

    Baulk

  • costa.
    Not bad.

  • Baulk

Give it a go. I was also spreading it on shortbread biscuits and I'm thinking about trying it on buttered toast...

  • nice with stilton

  • anyone ever done/ seen a big mince pie or tart in the same vein of apple pies/tarts. I mean we have little apple pies and bigger apple pies/tarts, shouldn't it work with mince too? shouldn't it be incredible?! gf is going to try concoct one but just wanted to see if anyones ever seen it done before.

i'm becoming a fat fuck thanks to these bastard confections. must ride more.

Yes, make a massive mince pie. My mum used to make this when she was sick of making mince pies, or the speed at which we used to eat them, and just used a big tart tin, same pastry, same mincemeat, maybe a bit lattice work on the top if you're feeling fancy. Less work but will fill up lots more people.

  • So who on this tread actually makes mince pies?

Can we have a meet up to have a mince pie off at a pub somewhere? losers who don't have the skills can bring some from Greggs but they will have to sit at a separate table.

  • Had some M&S puff pastry jobbies. Don't bother unless desperate. Looked okay but were more air than filling. Will try Greggs.

  • What is it about the Greggs ones that is so good then? The pastry, filling, composition or what?

Still not had one but gonna make it my mission tomorrow to track one down.

  • We have some Mincemeat from last christmas in the house.
    It's delicious.
Still no mince pies for me. I intend to rectify this tomorrow.

  • Bought a 6-pack of Morrisons shortcrust mince pies last night. :(
Still got 5 left in the pack.

  • 27 down...

  • Co-Op Truly Irresistible Luxury All Butter Mince Pies

Nicely filled decent amount of mincemeat, nice buttery pastry - would eat again, in for a second now

    7/10

  • Do mini mince pies count ? Discuss

  • no. they are actively good for you.......

  • Co-Op Truly Irresistible

    Minimal-to-zero air
Rich, butter (but not greasy) pastry with a great 'crumb'
    Thick, sweet filling
    As big as yer fist

  • Regarding the supermarket pies, always check the bakery ones first. For example, the Sainsbury's bakery ones are 4 for £1, and taste way better than the ones on the shelf.

    ha! same actually in queue!
