It could be held up by the UK receiver, most likely to be Parcelfarce.
andy is spot on. i called them parcelfarce after they lost a merckx frame of mine and it took months to locate. they even forged my signature trying to pretend it had been delivered. trouble was they forged somebody elses name, probably the guy who delivered it. then when i went to collect it they couldn't find it in the depot so they just went away and hid in the warehouse for about an hour hoping i'd go home. when it eventually turned up they'd dinged it and it was a write off. do not use parcelfarce!
i shipped my de rosa and a pinarello to NZ it was cheap but we also took oads of other boxes. i think your first box costs more if it's the only one whatever company you go with

Would probably work out cheaper to fly with the bike by packing it in a cycle bag. If booked in advance it can be very cheap, even free with some plane companies. If youre gonna have it shipped be careful, I've had frames arrive with rear stays bent towards each other from the sender not using spacers!

+1
http://www.senditnow.com is really easy and cheap

Senditnow looks like a white label of parcel2go... but yeah, cheap and cheerful.

Bumping this ancient thread, has anyone used a courier firm to transport a whole bike, unwrapped? Do they all insist on boxed items? Just asking as I'm trying to buy up north and have delivered south, and want to save the seller the aggro. Again not a valuable item so the risk is probably worth worrying about.

I've never encountered one that will send unwrapped. Could get scratched to hell and back though.

Parcel2Go and Senditnow I've used both a number of times....cheap and reliable without the constraints of measurements

Do you know how much i will pay to ship a complete bike from UK to France ? What's service should i use ?
-

Top advice is to use an aggregator to get the best price.
Price will vary hugely between shippers and on different days of the week, according to demand.
I shipped two bikes from San Diego to London 11 months ago. FedEx worked out cheapest at about $350. They arrived within 48 hours in perfect condition!

I used Interparcel - www.interparcel.com - last week to ship a pair of wheels to France. Best price was £30 but they were delivered within 3 days and I could track them online all the way.

I have used Interparcel,by far the cheapest.

+1. No extra cost with BA and it's an excuse for a weekend away.

Sorry to revive this but has anyone had any issues with dimensions of boxes via senditnow? I have a box to send ASAP but it measures 1.5 x 0.25 so technically seems to be wider than its max girth measurement, and I don't want it to be refused...

Hi all,
I thought I'd share recent info from shipping a frame and fork from UK to Australia.
The box size was as small as possible 85 x 19 x 69cm, weight <5kg.
Parcel Force quoted about GBP 180 for "Global Priority"
DHL quoted about GBP 300 by phone.
Interestingly DHL from Germany to Oz would have been only 39 Euro, thanks for that Sash.
Interparcel quoted GBP 111 via FedEx
Transglobal.org quoted about GBP 85 via DHL.
I went with Transglobal and it was collected and delivered door to door by DHL in 3 working days.
So it certainly pays to get a few (online) quotes.

Anyone shipped a bike / frame to Oz lately? Could do with knowing how much it costs.
Or, any idea roughly how much steel track bikes weigh?
-
• #70
anybody done this, i have been quoted 144 pounds, it's not the weight it's the size of box.any ideas?
-
• #71
I was quoted half that for a heavy dutch bicycle valued at £700 to Copenhagen to get it there within a week.
How many day/week does that £144 postage take?

turn the handlebars so your box is flatter
-
• #73
it was courrier place that were agents for al the usual suspects dhl, ups etc and i just asked for the cheapest, wasn't worried about speed of delivery, and they said they were bending the size rules at that. post office just said no, too big.who was 70 quid quote from. Its in a standard size bike box from lbs, not one of those wiggle wheels already on boxes.
-
• #74
The box I used were a massive Pashley one bigger than the standard bicycle box from a lbs that I only need to turn the handlebar, removed the pedal and lower the saddle.
I use the post office to send it.
They never said it's too big.

my local PO one took one look and said it was too big for international post, perhaps i'll try another PO
Looks as if you've already made your decision. ;)
