  • wine would be good if I didn't have to do laodsa uni work for tommorow. I've even got a2/3's of a bottle left. Coffee it is :-(

  • That's exactly how I looked at the end of my cross race today, but with more mud.

Chapeau to anyone who ventured out today, that was a tough day to be out on a bike.

  • thanks for the lovely ride. i enjoyed it loads but it felt tougher today than any other time.
    i am really unfit

  • honest weather at the end there!
cheers Sam for the great route and the other Sam for waiting while i mended a puncture, not to mention cheers Jonny for waiting at the ambiguous roundabout.

  • great to get out on my first SMTNRC and see so many familiar faces and a fair few new ones too. definitely a tough day to be out. those last 7/8 miles turned truly miserable. exedown hill was certainly the calm before the storm. well done all, hope to see you out there again in a couple of weeks.

cheers sam and scarlett for making this one happen.

plum, tell me you got home safe and sound.

and chapeau to you andyp - look forward to hearing about how you got on dude

  • :D

    fatty

Respect for riding out in the weather today. It was a bit of a shocker.

is this were we get to call you soft...

  • No. I was never going to make this ride as my brother was down visiting this weekend.

  • well done the lot of you. Friday night was high fever time ...yep the flu hit and i'm recovering now. glad you lot were out there dealing with it. from where i was situated.....(horizontal in bed) sounded like SKHA points to me

  • SKHA points? Super Kool Hard Ass points?

  • As per the picture above. Some examples on this page:

  • So are most of you guys part of Rollapaluza CC? I was thinking of joining, it'd be nice to do some group riding more regularly without joining some super hardcore race only club.

  • My shoes drying out earlier;

Both me and the bike were similarly mud encrusted but I was lapped (for the second time) by Dan Duguid just before the finish line and there was only one person in the hose pipe queue so the bike got rinsed very quickly.

My front mech was dropping the chain every time I shifted down to the small chainring so I did most of the race in the big, well 46 tooth actually, ring. It was fine going downhill, uphill, not so good. My cross bike is a tank. Tanks are not suited to muddy uphill slopes.

  • Well done everyone for getting out there today. Great to see and meet you all.

Good one BMMF and Sam for sorting. It was a lovely route and I really enjoyed the ride.

Sammy, that is the good thing about the Rollas, they are a very friendly and flexible club.

  • You're supposed to clean your shoes before drying them, Andy.

  • Err Andy, you ever heard of overshoes? ;)

  • Dried mud comes off easier than wet mud.

Overshoes in cross? How would one run up a grassy, muddy bank in overshoes exactly?

  • Good work all who ventured out today.

Andy what was the course at PORC like (other than muddy)?

  • The PORC course was tough. I think the results reflect this as only 8 riders finished on the same lap as Dan Duguid, who won.

The first half of the course was downhill, mainly on a fire road with a few narrower, but very muddy sections linking the road. The bottom of the course had a dead turn so you then had to start the climb back up by slogging your way up the hill carrying no speed and on a very slippery track. A couple of grassy banks were thrown in on the climb, one of which you had to dismount and run up. From there it was uphill on a narrow track all the way to the finish.

Details details. You might slip a bit, but I would save you the effort of hosing all that crap down.

  • good use of paul hayward's column. i find him tedious.

  • Wanted to say thanks to all for a great ride, and another thanks to all for being patient and waiting for me on the hills (and the downhills, flats etc). Will get a few more miles in my legs before attempting the next one. Still fun though, despite the rain. And even better from a post-bath and roast-meal perspective. See you all on the blacktop soon

this is normally where CliveO steps in as Rolla recruiting seargeant... he must be busy. But yes, Sam, join. It's fab for all sorts of reasons, mainly the lovely people you'll meet.

you may also want to have a read of the Cycle Clubs thread if you haven't seen it already.

  • Missed this Sunday, no excuse like IKEA or silky socks. Good to see you had a great time. Hope to be back on Dec 20th.

I've already done my bit on trying to recruit Sammy. I explained to him the joys of the Rolla CC when we met just over a week ago and he was most helpful to me. Sammy is exactly the type of rider we need and we are exactly the club for him.

  • Aaah, I see. All well in hand as per. I should have known.

And apologies for the woeful mis-spelling of Sergeant in my post above. Yuck. I'm going outside now to beat my stupid head with a hitting stick.
