  • Sounds like you are going to need to buy a second battery and a means of charging it I'm afraid- modern smartphones all fall into the "could suck-start a leafblower" category when it comes to battery life.

  • And the structure of the database for the contacts. But no-one will notice that.

Apart from anyone who gets a new contact with a December birthday.

  • Jacqui, you'll probably find adjusting stuff like how often your phone syncs, will reduce battery usage. I can get 24 hours out of my Nexus because I tend to be using computers most of the time and don't need the phone. At night I turn off sync so it doesn't beep at me. I don't leave the GPS on. I leave WiFi on but I'm almost always near a wifi access point and it also helps with faster location pinpointing if you're using nav. I used to use 2G instead of 3G but that was back when I had an early Samsung - I've not done that for years now.
Screen brightness I tend to run Auto now but used to leave quite low on the Desire HD, as it would cane the battery.
Reduce update intervals on any twitter, facebook, weather, news, etc apps.
There's probably a bunch more tips up thread about this.

  • oh my.
thanks for the replies TS Dammit VB, its as bad as i feared.

what's so great about being tethered to needing a socket? how is this an advance... clearly I don't get it.

    i want my blackberry back.

I have a new project for mircrosoft / intel / whoever makes these things..and their batteries.

Try using JuiceDefender, it automates a lot of the things people are suggesting, such as turning off wifi when the screen is off, only syncing every x-minutes

  • Yup, I get about 30hrs of battery life on my HTC Sensation using that...

  • Double sized battery for the S2: http://www.evertop.co.uk/p/4697323/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-i-Extended-Battery-Ultra-Long-Life-mAh-EB-FAGBU.html

Cheap, also - dunno if it's any good mind.

  • For those with a Nexus that's not updated yet...

    To force it to -

Apps -> All Apps -> Google Services Framework
    Force Stop
    Clear Data
The back to System Updates, it'll say last checked at the epoch.
    Click Check Now.

It might work. If not, rinse and repeat

This changes which batch the phone think's it's in. You'll need to reauth the phone with Google afterwards though

  • Actually the keyboard has changed a lot. The new swipe stuff is incredible

  • Screw you pricks. Might buy a Nexus until the 4 becomes re-available.

  • I thought that the camera app was now supposed to do HDR. It doesn't seem to, maybe it's only on the Nexus 4.

  • Ehmagerd swipe is amazing.

  • I am still using SwiftKey :p

  • I am still using SwiftKey :p

Me too! On phone and tablet.

  • I can't get on with swype.

Really love the nexus 7, although originally meant for the boyfriend, im really enjoying it and can see it being useful once baby's here. Thanks for your advice guys, and also thanks for the help on flash.

This what I basically do with my HTC sensation, word for word but I stop wifi if im not near a point as well.

  • Oh and my neighbour who apparently works for Vodafone just boosted my signal, didn't know he worked for them and was moaning to his gf, that have no signal at the flat.

  • It's slightly more involved but Tasker is good for setting up various battery saving rules, things like turn off Wifi when you leave your flat or turn off data overnight (but turn on once an hour to sync) and so on.

Does anyone else find that deleting files/folders seems to be a bit hit and miss on the Galaxy Nexus?

If I delete something via Ghost Commander (or Astro File Manager) then it still seems to be there on Windows Explorer (connected as Media device) and vice versa.

  • Anyone used Sygic for navigation? Comments?

    http://www.sygic.com/en/android

Haven't used sygic but have been using Navfree for a few months, and it actually gives better routes than my Garmin sat nav...

  • Talk Talk are advertising a white Nexus 4 + Nexus 7 bundle in stock from Dec 13th on a 24 month contract

  • That's Felicity's next phone sorted then.

Her view has simply been, anything but a black brick.

  • Isn't talk talk awful with contracts and services though?

My case for the tablet arrived today it's lush!

  • If a white Nexus 4 is coming, just wait and get it from Google.

  • Hmm I guess when I get to the US I'll buy a tablet... the difficulty is 7" or 10" form factor ? After the hassle with the Nexus 7, I am tempted with the 10 since it's supposed to have great build quality

  • I like the nexus 7 for It's new price point.

Secretly putting money away for one.

But that'll probably get spent on decorating.
