Just buy SIM free...
Speaking of which, anyone know when my SIM free Desire will get Gingerbread?

It's out on SIM-free DHD now so yours should not be too long.

You mean just like (say) Dell being liable for your PC getting a virus because they load a standard "Dell-ised" image of Win7 on it without the latest patches?
No chance- I am sure the EULA will protect them all down the line also.
Look at the abject failure of Google when they tried to cut down on the power of the networks with the Nexus One.

Your example is the opposite of what I'm saying. Dell doesn't stop their customers from getting updates directly from MS. They would have to sell laptops with Windows 7 and then refuse MS from passing through updates for the comparison to be made. As far as I'm aware, this doesn't happen. In fact, more likely than not, the first thing that happens when you turn one on is an update direct from MS.

But you don't have the (for example) HTC varient of Android on your handset- you have the (say) Vodafone varient of HTC Android.
My Nexus One has a completely different build reference than the plain vanilla 2.2 Android as it is the "optimised for Vodafone" version.
So a better example might be Ubuntu not allowing you to use Fedora updates on your system, as they are different, and may fuck it up.

HTC are outdoing Apple in the "arms race against ourselves" stakes; there's a bigger version of the Sensation called Holiday coming out in US with 4.5 inch screen etc.

Choice is a wonderful thing.

I have abandoned Yoo Ninja!, as it was just too repetitive, and instead have moved onto the absolutely brilliant Alchemy.

Samsung Hercules appears nearly identical to the Samsung Galaxy S II, except for different make of dual core processor,
and a slighly larger screen - 4.5 inches instead of 4.3 inches. -

Apparently the Vodaphone ones are unlocked just Voda branding so I could get one off Ebay but they all seem to be knocking around full RRP.
Give it another week and see.... edit Desire S are all about 70-75% of RRP on t'Bay so hopefully there will be some drop off soon.
