Basically you can get stupidfast scores by creating a RAMdisk which uses your fast memory instead of the slow external or in SGS's case 'crappy filesystem' SD card storage.

i got 2150 this time so its dropped a bit, im guessing its affected by other itmes running in the background too...
i am surprised it actually worked...
basically rhe app in the market does 2 things... it roots your phone by placing the update .zip on root of the device then you have apply that.. then once thats doen your handset is trooted and then back in the same app it lets you run the lag fix which places an ext2 partition on your memory which aparently fixes it...
hippy do yuo trust the quadrant scores to be a fair reflection of everyday usage?
i saw a overclocking tool in the market for rooted phones too anyused this?
-
• #2754
I use a couple of benchmarks alongside actual use to measure changes in everyday use :)
Basically, no single benchmark or combination of benchmarks is fool-proof or the be all and end all of performance. I like to use them to help confirm any changes I've noticed. Like, if I use a compcache and think it's slower and then a benchmark confirms it's slower, then it's probably slower.
I didn't know about this lag fix so I'd like to have a go on a SGS with it installed to see how it compares to stock and to the Desire.
I still wouldn't buy one though :) -

I set it up (overclocking) on my old G1 when I gave it to my girlfriend. The speed boost was very noticeable (it doubled the CPU).
This wasn't an overclock though. The CPU was designed to run at the speed it was boosted to. HTC has underclocked it for power savings.

Overclocking uses more battery though as you said.
I actually underclock my Desire so when it's off it throttles the CPU = longer battery life. :) -

thought as much i was wondering how on earth the score could possible go up by 150% but show only a little better in performance usage!!

Pissed! just typed a post lost it to a network blip!
anyway, can anyone recommend a robust, quality music player?
the default keeps doing nonsense and telling me to "tap to go to music player", then not recognising mps's and all manner of shite!ALos whats all this "Froyo" "Swype" "Quadrant" etc please?
I have a desire and am attempting to get the best out of it now. any help/guidance appreciated.
yes I have attempted ot read the back posts, but htey gave me a headache and sore eyes. all this phone tech is giving me a twitch!
-
• #2759
Froyo = Android 2.2
Swype is a keyboard replacement thingie where you can 'type' by swishing your fingers over the keys rather than pressing each one.
Quadrant = benchmarking app to test speed of your phone. If you are getting a tech headache, quit now. It's a deep dark thankless black hole of acronyms and adjustments.

Ta hippy, +5 ^^^ or whatever however you rate in this forum! jees I'm useless!
I'll check out this Froyo heard about it and thought it would dl to my phone atutomatically! silly me.no advice on a good music player then?.........pushing my luck!
-
• #2761
Where did you get your Desire from? It should probably be running Froyo/2.2 already.
I use the stock music player. I rarely play music so it does the job fine.
-

T-Mobile..! Thats what I thought, software would be updated automatically.
How do I check that? -
• #2763
cool on the music player, I ride with music most of the time and use it a lot, on planes or walking etc as I am sans iPoo.
with these new phones I dont see the need for an iPod anyway! personal statement there!

You will get an update OTA (over the air) meaning, if you have updates turned on (you should - it's the default) you should see a screen saying "Update available blah blah" and install it and there you go.
I think T-Mobile has 2.2 now, though they are damn slow about it.
-
• #2765
You can force the update. Hit menu, go to settings, go to "About Phone" (last option), "System software updates" (first option), and click "check now".
-
• #2766
That will force the check. You won't get the update if T-Mobile haven't let it through.
I got notification of a new update today (new radio I guess) but I'm running custom Modaco r9 so I'll wait until it's incorporated into that.

They are always fukin slow! Have had no such msg, and no idea if I have updates on - feeling quite unintelligent and small abot now, should probably reduce my font size to 4!
Horatio +3, thanks, jsut did that and it says "there are no updates available for your phone" I take this to mean I'm upto date (wooohooo), but I'm gonna check with T-mobs anyway!
Gents you've both been very helpful, if we are ever in the same venue (and I'm flush) I owe you both a beverage.
skips off happily feeling smug he has a swanky upted phone
in reality he is still at his desk looking at the sunshine outside! bollocks! -
• #2768
Hmmm, you have a Desire on T-Mobile. Unless you've already updated (or they're throttling updates) you should be able to update now.
Do this: menu, setting, about phone, software information. What does it say below "Android Version"?
-
• #2769
On the talk of HTC Desire, do the headphones have to go all the way in? Mine don't seem like they want to get all the way in and I keep losing connection to the headphones.
-
• #2770
There is no "Android version" in my menu!!
I have Firmware 2.1 (is this it?), Baseband, Kernel, Build number, Software number and Browser version!
wassatmean? I think I'm human but I'm actually a robot?
-
• #2771
Spenceey, unless your taking he Mick, I would say they have to be pushed all the way in! mine need to be!!
check the input, there maybe something lodged in it! has happened to me before.
-
• #2773
hell no! I have Firmware not Android!
jees T-mobile! Ta Hippy.

Nope not taking the Michael (might have sounded like I was though!) doesn't look like theres anything stuck in it, I'll try with another pair of headphones.
cheers for that it makes sense when put into laymans terms, it does feel a little snappier in places where i did genuinly feel it slowed down, like opening messages for example...
and that must be the reason for the low stock quadrant figure too then i am guessing?
after the fix it was at the top of the scores grpah... ill run it again see what it says..
