Think I may purchase the new Google Pixel/XL next week. My Nexus 5 is starting to creak a bit.

LOL.
Yeah, the same reason to never buy any phones from ebay or anyone else where it becomes a ball ache to return it when you find it locked to the wrong provider or broken or something.

@TW
So nothing beyond the usual horror stories I'd expect from dealing in the far east. If anyone has any first hand experience I'm interested to hear too, these companies can obviously be rather hit and miss...
You guys seem to have opinions on this matter - will paying through PayPal provide any of the protection I would otherwise expect with a UK seller?

Buyers are generally well looked after with paypal but for me, the ball ache of having a shit phone or no phone and then waiting to argue with some arsehat about sending it back then waiting for my refund blah blah means I will always pay extra and buy my device from Amazon or direct from Google.

Nah, it splits too much and removes a lot of the value of doing that too.
That is... you cannot migrate data over (Maps, Fit, Drive, etc) but yet apps you install on another account will want to use that.
If you try to go that route you end up with the worst of both worlds. Right now the two worlds are OK for different things, but trying both at once makes both shitty.
I like how I fight spam and data leaks with throwaway email addresses, I like my custom email, I like my hundreds of GB of photos (going back to 1994) and having all my email in my Gmail (going back to 1996).
I don't have a load of new things... but what I have works well. So presently... it's annoying, but not enough to force me to do anything about it.

Mine came from there, decided to take a punt as I was paying with PayPal... No problem here, arrived in a few days... Came with a US plug and Aussie adapter...

Google Apps is a ball pain.

That is exactly how I feel about my mashton.com Google Apps domain. It just pains to feel like a second class citizens when I am actually a heavy user of Google services and a semi early adopter.
The world of technology: it never just works, does it?

Pay with Paypal is my advice - I ordered one a while ago, was dispatched promptly, but without a name or house number on the parcel. DPD failed to tell me this and were even more useless than usual so I just stumped up the £10 more it was on Amazon at the time, and got my money back from Paypal.
I think if they hadn't messed up the delivery details, or DPD hadn't been useless, it probably would have been fine

Not sure what you're asking a question about - buying a nexus 5x? I linked in the post to the website for that.

Ah no: the screen replacement.

Friend has finally set up his One Plus 3 after having it for a month.
He set the pattern but now can't get into it. Is insistent that he knows the pattern but it doesn't work. We've tried following the factory reset instructions, no joy, and Android Device Manager. He was able to change the pattern to a pin with Android Device Manager but still can't get in (and couldn't remote wipe it either).
When he loads it up he is getting asked to put his Google account details in but that isn't working.
From what I've heard of One Plus customer service I would have advised him to send it back, but he's had it a month, so there's that.
Any ideas?

My S7 was crocked yesterday, massive overheating and battery drain. Turned out to be the oculus update, so if you've had something similar I suggest uninstalling oculus until it's fixed.

What are the chances of a Nexus 5X price drop middle of next week?

I've just clicked on the Encrypt my phone in Android. Came up with a warning that it would restart and not to turn off as you may lose your data.
It rebooted and came up with the motorola splash screen and has just been stuck on that for the past hour and a bit. Is this what it does when it's encrypting or has it crashed? Obviously I'm wary about restarting it.
Edit - seems it had crashed. Could be because it was rooted from what I'm reading.

...
Finally caved and ordered a 32gb Nexus 5x.
Yep. I'd say pretty high.

Fuck, haha.

You won't regret it and the price has dropped a lot. Google Pixel phones are about to come out, but if you need a new phone now they aren't much good!
-
• #17874
Hmm weird. Pixel is interesting, I like the sizing options but damn $649 ?!
Might have to skip that. -

Better snapper, OS, battery life, charging time vs iPhone 7.
If it comes with dual sim and expendable memory than count me in.
If you're ok with buying from Hong Kong, with no UK / EU consumer protection, then I'm sure they're peachy.
