  • Anyone got a good suggestion for an affordable external battery pack for Android (Nexus 5)? Figure having a backup power source is a good idea but don't want to be dragging around a brick...

  • I bought a PowerBank from Maplins a coupla months back... Takes my N5 up to about 80% charge, it was about six quid with a cable... Not too large either...

  • Samsung black screen of death. Tried all the usual suggestions, removed battery etc. Worth repairing? Other options or suggestions? I didn't drop it or anything, just happened.

  • If you're getting bad battery why not go back to the last release of 4.4?

  • The Anker astro offerings are good, I have the huge 12000 mAh one but they do a few slim ones too - girlfriend has the 6000 mAh and it's much more reasonable. They charge your phone quickly too (ie negotiate the charging current and give it the full beans not just the default 500 mA).

  • My TWRP backup didn't work properly and I can't be bothered backing everything up, reinstalling etc, otherwise I probably would have gone back to 4.4.

I have a big Anker one which is good but a bit heavy http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BQ5KHJW gives a few full charges at decent speed.

Also have this little Nokia one which is good because it has a built-in cable and is pretty portable. Is a bit slower to charge and only gives about 50% charge though http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00E67MPYW/

  • Anyone want a OPO invite?

    PM if you do.

  • I'm after some advice, I had a real faff last week with my Google login. Changed my password, forgot it and this confused Google big time. I ended up setting up 2 step verification and using the app password generator which worked a treat.

I am running Firefox on my Android phone. I have logged out of LFGSS on the phone and now can't login. App password generator or my actual current working Google login don't work.

    Any ideas?

Oh yeah logins on my mac, to gmail etc all working fine.

  • Anyone want to trade a Sony Experia Z2 for an Iphone I am bored of these issues now.

  • hmm using Chrome for LFGSS seems ok.

No idea why Firefox isnt having it when all other google logins are working.

  • @Preset I have an OPO but no invites yet. If they ever hand me out one I will holler at you (in case you hadn't gotten one yet). I got mine on a day when they had open ordering which they do every once in a while.

  • oops looks like I have one now. I'll pm.

  • @arrowplum I was offering mine up, Dude. I have 1 (potentially 2 if my other isn't claimed).

    Cheers for the offer though.

Have you rooted yours? I just got round to doing mine after giving the Mrs my N5. Must say, it only got better after doing so.

  • hah ahh sorry. I hear that reading comprehension is the first thing to go.

  • Yeah, saw that article. As one commenter says, even if they did push out an update, most people wouldn't get it as the OEMs probably wouldn't bother.

  • That's the key thing... they've seen that OEMs aren't packaging and pushing the updates and so Google are focusing their dev effort on the future stuff wherein Android gets smaller and smaller as more of the core functionality gets delivered as apps which can be auto-updated by Google way into the future.

Which is good... but also shite, as not all of the updates are great.

  • Lollipop on Nexus 5 seems to periodically screw up my wifi as well.
Wifi is connected but my phone thinks it's offline and shows no internet connection, although because it has wifi connected it also won't use the 4G. It makes using things like whatsapp a bit of a gamble. (I'm currently pondering using tasker to ping something and turn off wifi if it doesn't work but it's a faff to sort out an annoying bug.)

  • Will using a proxy hide my phone traffic when on company wifi?

  • If you control the WiFi network, then download the app "WiFi Analyzer".

The vast majority of WiFi issues can be resolved by simply moving the frequency (channel) of the WiFi network to a clean bit of the spectrum. Most WiFi routers shipped by people like BT, Virgin Media, etc only choose 1 of 3 channels (even though 14 channels are available) and as such in dense housing they will all conflict.

  • Using a VPN will do this, yes.

But proxy? It depends what you mean by that... a web based proxy isn't effective at hiding anything from anyone.

  • Sorry, I meant VPN... Good to know.

  • Cheers but I'm reasonably sure this isn't what's causing the issue, the 5GHz seems reasonably uncluttered and I'm getting this issue sat a few feet from the router. Forgetting the network and connecting again sometimes fixes it. I didn't get this issue until updating to lollipop.

  • Lollipoop...

My N5 has been OK, battery has gone to shit tho'...
