  • Is the G2 camera any good?

  • The camera's better than the one on the N4 by miles, battery life has been OK for me...

  • The g2 camera shits all over the n5.

  • I've ordered the G2. They only had it in white which I am a bit dubious about but c'est la vie.

The reviewed features that won me over are the camera; the best battery life of any android phone reviewed on techradar; qswipe - the ability to run two apps side by side and the price.

I like the sound of double tap screen on. I am not sure about the buttons on the back but we will see.

Battery is really important for me since my days are spent out of the house and not in an office, near a charger. The gnex having replaceable batteries was a real boon for me. I always try to carry a charged spare. One reviewer got 36 hours from his G2 whilst reviewing it so using it quite hard. Also in a film playing soak test it ran for 16 hours. That is amazing.

    Will report back.

    Bye bye Nexus. Gulp.

    This had occurred to me.

I was also considering the OPPO N1 Cyanogen phone about to be released.

  • I almost bought an F320, the Korean G2, on eBay but decided to buy new glass for my SGS3 instead.

  • Facebonk crashing often on N5.

  • Had no issues with Farcebook on my N5 as yet. Spotify and Snapchat have crashed a few times though.

  • Got the android 4.3 update for my Galaxy S3 yesterday. It's shite. Very slow to wake, slow to open contacts and dialer, music playback is choppy and battery life appears to be worse than it was on 4.1.2. Avoid, if you can. Looking forward to getting a nexus when my contract ends.

  • Have you turned it off/on again.

Actually a serious point, I know when flashing custom roms you're usually advised to give the device a couple of reboots to let it settle down

  • Yep, couple of regular reboots and a proper battery pull, leave for 5 mins one as well. No difference and it appears I'm not the only one with these symptoms. It's a shame Samsung have released such a crappy update, after holding off releasing ANY 4.2 update and spending ages dicking around with this one.

  • Hmm that sucks.

  • Seriously, Y U NO CYANOGENMOD???

(had written something more useful, then I had a desktop browser failure)

  • Indeed. It said prior to upgrade that it couldn't be downgraded for security reasons. I've not buggered about with rooting it or anything like that, suspect I might have to.

I'd considered cyanogenmod or aokp but reading up on it, it seems camera and various other things are basically shite as no available drivers or something like that? so i'd just be replacing one set of issues with another.

links to here, choose from stable/RC (both at 10.1, Android 4.2) or Milestone (monthly-ish) or Nightly which I believe are at 4.3.

Yes, over a year ago. Been running the CM10 nightlies since November 2012, I gave stock 6 weeks to impress me and it failed.

    CyanogenMod 10.2

    TV-Out is non-functional
GPS shown as active in details of battery-trend although being switched off.

    CyanogenMod 10.1

    TV-Out is non-functional

Note that's a wiki, the GPS false-positive was only added recently and will probably go away.

  • Fair enough, I'll have to look into it, reckon I can live without TV-Out... What do you use for backups? I find Kies terrible.

  • Most of my stuff is sync'ed, I'd use Koush's Helium Backup for most Android 4 devices.

Koush is the good egg who created the ClockwordMod bootloader and the Rom Manager app.

  • What do you find to be the main benefits of CM over stock?

  • Crapware that comes with stock tends to keep the original version taking up space even when you've updated it.

    CM => no crapware

Downside, the first time you flash you'll need to install GApps. I do this from ClockworkMod as it's where I've just applied the main rom.

  • Anyone rooted the Nexus 5 yet? I'm getting annoyed at a load of my Tasker profiles not working as I don't have root.

  • KitKat rolling out to wifi only Nexus 7's (gen 1 and 2) and Nexus 10's. Nexus 4 and data enabled N7's "soon".

    http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11/12/nexus-7-2012-2013-and-nexus-10-android-4-4-kitkat-update-to-start-rolling-out-today-nexus-4-and-nexus-7-3g-soon/

  • Someone on XDA has been playing with Nexus 5 camera video and audio and come up with hacks that improve all the bit rates and quality if you have root.
