Love the idea of Chromecast but not sure if you can stream media from your local devices...think everything has to be hosted in the cloud!
Could have wrong end of stick though...
You won't be able to do this, at least not at the moment. They've released the SDK though, and people have found that the device has DIAL (DIscovery And Launch) stuff built in which is interesting. I don't know too much about DIAL, but I believe it gives certainly some level of AirPlay like abilities.

Apparently, you can push local files with the Chrome extension like this:

Looks to be a good tablet, IMO. The screen should be amazing.

why does the native android player only pick up the back up stream when playing out a live feed? what kind of madness is this?

Just got the 4.3 up grade, everything seems pretty much the same.

That's honestly the only reason for the upgrade. I like the old one, but the screen res bothers me when reading the web. It's great for video etc...
Not sure what I'll do with the old one. Perhaps ebay it or something

Tried it today around London. It's... exciting.
The directions are announced a little late - you get no warning, so as you're passing a junction you'll get told to turn left. It's also rather keen to replan a route the moment you go off-track, which initially I found annoying but I think it's better than the alternative. If they can get the announcements a little more in advance, it will be pretty awesome. The routes cyclestreets come up with are maybe a bit too optimal, being a bit too twisty without factoring in the time it takes to turn across traffic etc, but it does give it that rat-run feel and the routes it came up with were a lot of fun.
7/10
A little late is a bit generous. I used it to get me from Beckenham to Lewisham and it left me sat waiting at junctions a couple of times while I waited for an instruction. I also missed turnings as I was already past the turning before it gave me the direction and road name.
On the return journey I asked for the quietest route (I used balanced on the way out) and it made me cross the A21 at Lewishan High St(left out of George Lane and a quick right across 4 lanes of traffic into Hawstead Road called out at the last minute) and shortly after it told me to turn right onto the South Circular, at this junction where there's a no right turn.
It also failed to recalulate when I missed a junction after it told me to turn left at a roundabout immediately after telling me to go straight on.
It's still early days yet though; I'm sure the mapping will improve. It did get me to my destination the first time and managed to recalculate when I missed the turn, so there's a good base to start from. Earlier calls would definitely help.
Also 7/10, but that's probably a little stingy considering it's free.

The way it uses WiFi to find location even if it's off is nice and they finally put auto complete in the dialer - 4.3 is a minor update but there are some good additions.

Because auto power saving is enabled, is the answer to that.

Right, I have (very easily) created a route in Ride With GPS on my Note, saved it and then downloaded it.
I can navigate to the downloads folder and see the file.
How would I go about moving this to an SD card, or, better, transfer it directly to the "new rides" file on my Garmin 800 via a USB cable?
-
• #11971
Plug it in to a PC along with the Garmin and drag it there
-
• #11972
Ah, I should have added, trying to work out a way of doing this without the PC.
The goal here is for cycle touring, so plot route on Note, transfer to Garmin, ride.

buy an 810.
Or just make routes before you leave like most people

It's amazing what a difference having all the information makes.
You can use any of the file managers available on Play to move it to the SD card. How you get it from there to the Garmin without a PC I don't know. I presume you have tried mounting the Garmin on the Note with a USB cable?

I don't have the correct cable, sadly- I suspect that it would be easier to take the SD card from the Garmin and put it into the phone, transfer then move the card back.
If, of course, I can then move the file on the Garmin off the SD card and into the new rides folder.
I need one of these to connect Garmin to Note:
Although, if you're talking about things like iPlayer then it's true you don't need a licence...
