  • If they both have SD slots it's a piece of piss. Just use a file manager to copy it to the new rides folder on the Garmin card while it's in the Note. You've not even tried this? What are you doing? Weighing it?

  • Who has rooted their Sensation?

Is there a nice way to backup everything, without root, before then using HTCdev.com to get root (which clears all user data)?

  • From what you say above it is possible to move the location of the New Rides file to the SD card?

Guessing that needs to happen using a PC?

  • Generate gpx on Note, move it to NewRides folder on SD card, no?

  • Set your Garmin to use your SD card for storage, not the on-board.

  • Ok, the file manager on the Note couldn't see any of the Garmin file structure on the SD card, what's a good file manager to grab from the Play Store?

  • I think I used Astro when I last needed a file manager.

  • OK I found a way of doing the transfer using a Micro SD card if you do not want to use Garmin Connect to build a course.

Leave the Edge configured to use the internal storage.

Create the following directory structure on a Micro SD card.

    Garmin\Activities
    Garmin\Courses
    Garmin\NewFiles
    Garmin\SQL
    Garmin\Workouts

Put the card in to the Galaxy and download the GPX course to the Garmin\NewFiles folder on the card. Take the card out and put it in the Edge. Switch the Edge on and it will process the GPX file on the card and create the course and place it in the Garmin\Courses folder on the Edge.

It took a little playing around to get the Galaxy to download the file as a GPX file from the site I was using. I was using BikerouteToaster and needed to use Opera as the web browser to keep the gpx file extension otherwise it got changed to html.
The Galaxy download the file to a download directory on the Galaxy so I then moved it to the correct directory on the SD card.

  • Cheers Hippy, I'd found the Rainmaker article but not the other one.

I'll grab an SD card and try that process.

Should've asked, I've been doing this for years as I use a Garmin on Linux machines and can't run the Garmin software even if I wanted to.

  • That would be really cool, if one could upload a ride from 810 to Strava on phone via bluetooth.

  • I thought that was the point of the 810. I guess it just pushes to Garmin Connect?

  • Just getting used to Carbon twitter app. it's pretty cool but struggling to switch between accounts other than waiting for an alert about another account... am I overlooking a simple swipe?

  • ^ It was an embarrassingly simple swipe, now discovered.

  • OK. I wanted to play an audiobook on my Android device. That I'd bought. From iTunes (mistake 1) on a Mac. The file is a .m4b file - which iTunes assigned DRM to, so protected. Fair enough - I will only use it on a couple of devices.

It's impossible to just copy it to my Android device (Nexus 4) and play it. I googled and tried a number of different ways.

After getting increasingly frustrated I ended up spending 2 minutes searching for the same file on a torrent site and doing it like that. FFS I've paid for it - let me use it however I want on whatever I want. No wonder people use torrents.

Realise this should probably be in the rant thread.

Anyhow. Does anyone know a simple way I can listen to my audiobook that I bought from iTunes on my mac on my Nexus 4?

  • Not really meaning to sound facetious (and realise that it doesn't help you in this predicament), but don't use iTunes. Sadly DRM seems to be used to lock users into a single eco-system, as opposed to actually guaranteeing 'fair usage' which one would assume would include playing a file you own on another device you own.

One low-tech solution which I've used in the past is to burn it onto a CD and then re-encode it in a different format. Klunky, but it works. Otherwise there are lots of converters online, no idea what works though

  • DRM is evil.

  • Avoid DRM.

Write a letter to the people you bought the content from. Let them know you will be pirating their stuff from now on since they don't let you use it legally why bother trying.

  • I wanted to do this with some audiobooks my wife bought. In the end I paid some cash to SoundTaxi. They have a programme that will strip the drm out of it.

  • Started to see a significant drop in battery life after the 4.3 update. Some digging around revealed location services were going bananas which explains why it lost 50% on standby in 24 hours. Hangouts doesn't seem to be under the Google sync list in settings and I don't want to remove it just yet - it doesn't seem to be drawing enough power to account for what I've experienced so I'll let it slide. Anyone else noticed a battery hit?

  • you used to be able to strip itunes drm by burning it to a cd then re-ripping it all from within itunes.

    Disabled Google Now?

  • Did that long, long ago.

  • What else have you got that likely wants to know your location? I don't use Hangouts - does it need location info? Does it sync current contacts online or some bollocks? Downgrade to chat and see if there's a difference?
