  • it perpetually takes me to the "pay us or we delete your photos" page.

You should have listened to me 8 years ago 🙂

  • decided to just pay for a month. They're safe for now, and a lot of it is shit.

@mdcc_tester - youre correct. I used to use barracuda's Copy, which disappeared. In fairness though, at all time they have given me the opportunity to safely store photos/files often at times/locations when i couldn't have backed up to an HD.

  • Any recommendations for logs for a wood burner in Surrey? Looking at circa 2M3 for winter.

  • Stay away from feces unless it's well-aged.

  • I've been using logsforsale.co.uk - last winter we had one of their double height pallets delivered and split it with a neighbour, still got a small pile of logs by the woodburner now.

  • How bizarre--do people really upload their photos without keeping their own copies?

I mean, I can understand data loss, like hard disks dying, but only keeping copies on-line? Strange.

  • Random question because I just came across it and haven't seen it mentioned here (probably just missed it) - what's people's opinion on the viability / future of SRAM's 'Universal Derailleur Hanger' 'UDH'?

For obvious reasons, I haven't had to deal with derailleurs that much in the last few years, but I'm aware that it can be a bit of a nightmare to find the right one sometimes, so possibly a good move overall - or maybe just another new derailleur hanger? Some of the reporting about it seems fairly hopeful, but I don't know how realistic that is.

  • Anyone got a link to BT live chat? Everything I try keeps spitting me into a useless help and support page.

  • Thanks, They looked like a winner online.

    Jon

  • Well I didn't win either lottery so BTC it is.

  • @root
Thanks both - tbh we've usually stuck to Beko, Indesit, Baumaticbamd never had any obvious issue with any; obviously provided stiff works it's hard to equate what works best unless you've had prolonged experience with different manufacturers over a long period.

Would I be mad to buy this?

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for a budget/ spreadsheet for personal use?

I'm toying with the idea of a spreadsheet but I know I'll go way overboard.

  • Having used a hob with shit touch controls I'd say, possibly.

The one I used was unresponsive and would change itself if it got wet. This may be better but who knows.

  • Cheers - I'll swerve it. I'm tempted by a Candy at less than £150, good reviews and big saving on RRP and, not as dramatic but still, a 25% reduction on next best price, or a Hi Sense, the main pull being that all their products have such consistently positive reviews. Had a Candy washing machine once and it was, well, pretty shit

  • Have had a Hisense fridge for a year. Been absolutely fine. It's quiet. Stuff is cold.
Getting a Hisense washing machine delivered tomorrow after the Hotpoint that was left in the house when I bought it 6yrs ago died.
Recommended a Hisense TV to a mate recently. Seemed fine when I set it up, and still working absolutely fine.

Not that I'm particularly sold on them over any other, but they seem to be well priced with largely decent reviews.

  • Idle wondering during a spin class: I know Biopace etc rings are meant to get you over the flat spot with less effort, but could you rotate a biopace ring 90 degrees to make the flat spot harder on a spin bike, and improve your performance on the flat spot while keeping normal round chainrings on your actual bike?

  • could you rotate a biopace ring 90 degrees

Biopace rings are already a quarter turn out of the "correct" phase, according to every other non-circular chainring guru

  • Shimano Biopace was about 90deg out from the raft of recent oval rings.

  • I rest my case, I guess?

  • recent

Not just recent, the pre-Biopace Polchlopek ones were aligned like everybody else, only Shimano had other ideas.

  • Shimano’s argument, as I recall it, was that on a mountain bike (which was what it was originally designed for) the rings were ovalised in such a way that you had the lower gear at the 3am/9pm position, so it kind of induced a stamping motion to accelerate you over the supposed dead spot at 12/6. It sounds like balls, but having had a few bikes with Biopace rings back in the early/mid 80’s, they did seem to work for me, in a way. I actually quite liked them off-road but never had them on a road bike.

  • Any recommendations for a decent cheap 10.5/10.8kw electric shower (£80-120)? Looking at Bristan Smile/Bliss/Glee and Mira Go/Sprint etc (can stretch budget a bit if highly recommended

    Cheers

  • Has anyone bought reflective tape from EBay recently? Just looking for a decent recommendation.

Plan to put it in on my mudguards and seat stays.
