My dad used to visit Saudi Arabia a fair bit. He liked it, especially the food. (He did spend 12 years working on submarines though, so daylight and fresh food are luxuries in his mind).

A five star hotel is great for holidays. When you are essentially sleeping there, 1 or 5 star has little difference. Whilst in a location where you are resented and envied in equal measure it is difficult to enjoy the benefits of your 5 stars particularly when there is little to do and not much option to "take in the local sights or culture". During my time overseas I probably averaged a 70 hour week, which I really don't believe was appreciated or believed by the Uk based staff. All any one ever saw was "wow loads of money, international travel and 5 star hotels". This was part of the reason I gave it up, along with wishing to spend time with my family. I do not regret my time overseas, Although I am glad I gave it up, additionally Saudi and Nigeria were low points that made me decide that I would only travel, on my account, but you do need to work in some sh**holes to gain experience, please the company, and get the jobs in the carribean. Work is never all roses.

Fair enough, I imagine it would get boring (then maybe terrifying) if the stay was for an extended period.
If it was me I'd want to go out and have a good look around- not being able to would be a huge frustration.

Where can I buy student copies of microsoft windows in London, over the counter job.
-
• #9331
I'm going to guess it has to be organised through a university and the IT department would be a good place to ask?
-
• #9332
don't know if they sell the student copies over the counter at all. I know you need a .ac.uk email address to get them online.

They're rich enough, & fake student sales are still sales which would probably have been pirate users otherwise.

Getting cheapo copies of software is piss easy. I bought a copy of photoshop and indesign for the company i work, as we do training I phoned up Adobe to find out if we could get discount as an education institution, I was expecting to have to go through loads of red tape to have to prove that was what we did. But no, all Adobe wanted was a scan of any photo ID that belonged to the staff member buying it (you can't buy a copy as a company but you can as a staff member) and a note on headed paper saying that you worked there.
If I were an unscrupulous person I would suggest that all you needed to do to get 80% off a legit copy is to kock up a staff ID and a nice letter for yourself from a fake company.
but i'm not so i would never suggest that.EDIT: as tester said, they're probably happy to get a bit of money rather than none

not exactly the attitude I expect from Microsoft though.

Oury's - What is the deal?
I think their pretty cool in a retro BMX/dirtbike kinda way. But how is it that they ended up being pretty much the only handlebar grip in the fixé skidders inventory? You can often see people trying to use oury's innapropriately around the bends of bullhorns and even drops and also people using bar tape on risers which looks equally shit.
cant think of any bmx'ers or mtb'ers that use them, in fact id never seen or heard of them before fixy brigade appeared. Its like they were some random niche product lost to history.

not exactly the attitude I expect from Microsoft though.
I always thought that they weren't to worried about home users more about corporate users.
But will ask at PC world, etc to see what answer I get.
Thank you all.

I have SRAM Force shifters and mechs, and two rear wheels.
First is an Easton R4 hub with a Dura Ace 7900 cassette.
Second is a Dura Ace 7800 series hub with an Ultegra cassette.
Both cassettes are 12-27.
If I set the gears up to index with the Easton wheel, then it is out on the Dura Ace, and vice versa.
What am I doing wrong?
-
• #9344
Nothing, there will be variations in cassette position on the different wheels so you can't index for both.
-
• #9345
Arse. I wanted to hear "simply put spacer X in position Y and you can swap wheels to your hearts content".
Any chance of lying to me Andy?
-
• #9346
You can get cassette spacers to help. But there isnt much room for adjustment. They should'nt be more then half a turn on a barrel adjuster out though.
-
• #9347
It's just a low level annoyance really, I use the DA hub/Open Pro/Ultegra cassette on the turbo, and tend to stick it in one gear and leave it.
Like all these things, it would be nice if it just worked!
-
• #9348
Barrel adjusters.... I hate them..
-
• #9349
I don't have one for the front mech- slightly concerns me.
No provision for an adjuster barrel on the down tube cable stop, I could put an inline one into the cable as it curves down from the bars I suppose
