  • Anyone know where I can find a CXP33 32h rim in silver? Evans has one in stock so I need to find one other somewhere else and all I'm finding are black ones.

  • ^^ +1

  • Nice.

I will remember that and edit as appropriate.

madgetts cycles often have a good stock. not london based tho.

  • What did you use for your model; your ego?

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to andyp again.

Thanks for that. Popped into Condor at lunch and they had a pair in their warehouse so I'm set now.

  • Why when I ssh with the -D option and I exit the remote server dose ssh not seem to quit properly? It hangs leaving me with a blank terminal? ^z shift put it to the background where I can kill it ok with kill %jobnumber. Normal ssh to the same server dose not cause this problem.

  • Considering how much simpler a-head stems are, compared to quill stems, why on earth did quill stems emerge earlier?

(Idle thought, prepared for some extreme fridge logic to kick in)

  • What is 3in1 asking?

  • For a SOCKS tunnel so I can access some sites.. I'm no network expert so just do what I've found works.

  • Ahh thank!. I looked on the man page and tried to add 'N' option but it didn't seem to work maybe because I did not also state the port separately with the '-p' option. Thanks it's always good to get a better understanding.

Just go look at some very early bicycles and check out the kind of metalworking/components they were using. It will become clear.

    I've got socks drawer.

  • Is there anything mdcc_tester DOESN'T know?

    I don't know what andyp's problem is.

  • DFP: it is slightly less true than homeopathy.

Oddly enough, it's slightly more true than homoeopathy. The gravitational pull of C2010X1 would need to be about 1e12 times greater than it actually is to be bigger than the usual monthly variation in the moon's pull, at which scale it would be probably have a small but measurable effect on the water tides. 30C Homoeopathic dilutions would need to be 1e36 times stronger for there to be a >50% chance of containing at least one molecule of active ingredient.

  • Saudi Arabia. Worth taking a 2 / 3 year job there?

    [Edit]

A country where I would be making judicious use of a SOCKS proxy, no less.

If you are earning $20,000 per month tax free then you can leg it if and when the whole country goes to hell in a hand basket and still do well, surely?

  • Protestors will throw bricks at you for avoiding UK tax though

  • Buy a pope-mobile, wave at the povo's in comfort.

  • It's the stories of gunfire and kidnap that are making me think that it's not the best idea in the world, irrespective of the money.

    It's warm in winter...

Warm in summer too I hear...

    No lady drivers either ducks

  • tiswas, if you do go, get two passports

  • We send engineers to Saudi.

    Airport>taxi>compound>work(for one to two weeks)>taxi>airport.

The engineers never leave the compound, so the security risk is extremely low.

However we do have to make it clear to the engineer that if he chooses to leave the compound then we're not paying the ransom.

Probably something to do with your inability to put 2 and 2 together.

  • I worked in Saudi over 10 years ago,it was truly awful and soul destroying, despite various subsequent offers I refused to go back. The expats I met there where a sad group of people.
Dammits attitude is very reminiscent of the attitude of the back room/home staff I had to deal with at the time. Little idea of the realities, and absolutely no intention of trying to understand them. To Dammit I am sure you are a nice bloke, this is not a go at yourself, but the tone of your post struck an unpleasant note. I will quantify my post by saying that I worked for more than 10 years as an expat and regardless of location, the support received from our UK offices was lacking in it's understanding of the real hardships of it's staff on a daily basis.

  • You are quite correct- I've no idea what it's like. I'd question the "no intention of trying to understand them" bit though.

I spoke to the clients security people (financial services lot) and they assured me that the engineer would never be exposed to "raw" Saudi unless he deliberately went looking for it, i.e. left the compound.

I then spoke to the engineers who are qualified to do the work- asking if any of them was interested in it.

One of them said yes, he'd been out to Dubai to install the last system, and would be happy to go to Saudi.

This next bit might come across as facetious- but is a genuine question.

-How much hardship is the engineer in for, spending two weeks living and working in a five star hotel?
