  • Have you checked your home and contents insurance and your bank?

What do you need it for? I managed a year round Lat Am. with a decent 7" tablet, other half managed almost equally well with a reconditioned Tesco hudl. For the few times we struggled we were able to use a hotel/hostel PC.

That said, if you need a laptop for work I don't think a cheap tablet will cut it. If its watching videos and games then get a 7-8" tablet - 10" is too big imo, a 7" will fit in your pockets (if you're a guy), and is lighter and easier to hold.

  • Yeah nothing much, just watching a bit of telly and looking up places to visit. A small tablet would probably be a good shout.

  • There should be loads of options out there.

I got mine a while back so can't really recommend anything.

SD slot is useful. If not then get a little dongle so you can plug a USB drive in to keep your films etc. on. +32gb does help, but not the end of the world.

  • Chromebook is what I'd go for here.

  • @Howard and I did a one way car rental in the US in 2016 (pick up Las Vegas drop off San Diego). He might remember the company we used.

  • Any recommendations for a reliable/reputable high capacity power pack? I'd want 2 (or more) x USB Type A, ideally 1 x USB C (but would accept 3 x Type A instead) and if poss a full size plug socket so I can charge laptops and maybe even run things from it (though the latter might be a step too far).

    Was looking at this:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-RAVPower-27000mAh-Universal-Smartphone/dp/B01MDKHWNR/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Happy to spend whatever it takes but would like something relatively portable. (Was asking a week ago about much bigger devices for powering more things but here I'm looking for something I could slip in a camera bag).

Am also interested to know how long (if at all) I'd be able to run a 25w device for using the above power pack. It's this:

  • After some work on my roof my downstairs neighbours have complained that their TV reception is knackered (which is fair enough). Seems the builders took the aerial down but didn't reinstate them.

Do aerials have to go on the highest point of the roof or can they go on the wall? Does what way they're pointing make a difference, if so which way should they point?

  • They're directional. They don't have to be at the highest point, but the higher it is, the less chance of interference/signal being blocked. You can find out where to point it here https://ukfree.tv/prediction

  • I have an old ipod shuffle (~2008) that I haven't updated for ages - maybe 5yrs?

If I try to change the music on it, will Apple use itunes to kill it to death with updates as punishment for not buying something newer?

  • It'll be fine, my partner uses a first gen shuffle in her car and changes music regularly...just gotta sync it to your iTunes

  • I bought an iPhone recently and according to the iPhone battery health check it's at 85% of new battery health. Is that good or bad?

  • dafuq is going on here? Deep circular marks that almost look punched in.

  • To pick-up the chain pins?

What brand is it and how many sprockets?

  • Do 1" threaded forks by and large have the same thread pitch? I tried to swap a fork over using the same headset but the threads won't engage.

  • There’s a few (mostly obsolete) standards. Could also be damaged threads at the start of the new fork?

  • Do 1" threaded forks by and large have the same thread pitch?

By and large, yes, but of course there are exceptions. Sheldon is your friend.

  • Could also be damaged threads at the start of the new fork?

Given frankenbike's habits, I'm going for 70% this, 29% Raleigh/ISO mix up and 1% anything else.

  • Ugh, sometimes I hate bikes. The frame/fork/headset is an old Motobecane thing so I'm guessing they've used the French standard. Sounds correct as Sheldon says the French ones are filed flat rather than grooved.

What are the chances that it has an Italian threaded BB that doesn't fit my BSA stuff then?

  • You might be really lucky and have a french threaded BB shell.

  • Don't do this to me, I can't take any more.

I only bought the frame because I had everything else ready to go in my parts box. Apparently not.

  • Is this rim tape too wide? Walls are very shallow and wondering if it will foul the tyre bead not allowing it to seat correctly. Is 18mm.
