  • thanks - keeping an eye on what? Cracks?

  • Can anyone tell me for what size of ball bearings this campa spindle was designed? From my research I think it's a c-record spindle: shield logo, 70-sp engraving, 111mm width, 53/54mm between bearing race shoulders. Any idea whether it's made for 1/4, 7/32 or 3/16 ball bearings?

p.s. 3/16 according to velobase, can anybody confirm this?
Follow up question: what is the situtation on compatibility of bb cups with different ball bearings sizes? Interchangeable or no-go?

  • Yeah the bit where its been over tightened, though I'm sure its fine

  • My cousin is trying to win 'most likes' competition for a funded kayaking trip. He bloody loves kayaking. If anyone has a spare 5 seconds and wants to help then just enter an email address here

No go. If your balls are too big, you get a nasty two-point contact in which one or both points must be sliding rather than rolling. If your balls are too small, your contact pressure goes through the roof and you start carving grooves in the races.

  • @mdcc_tester Thanks a lot! That means I'll probably have to run DA 7600s on Jis tapers, is that tester approved?

  • Washing machine as a side car works well if set on the spin setting.

  • Any tips for merging .fit files into a single big file? I've tried fitfiletools.com, and it produces a corrupt file that nothing can read, and I've tried gotoes.com which doesn't work at all as it just produces a 500 error page. Can't help but think that it shouldn't be this hard a thing to do...

  • Can I ask why you wish to merge them? If to obtain a track or similar, convert to gpx and there are easy ways to merge, notepad probably being the most basic. But probably not the easiest.

  • Of course,
    I knew I hadn't thought it through!

Are you trying to fit 7600s to an Italian frame? BB-7610 with Italian threads is the way forward, you can probably find a NOS one for under £200 :) If it's just a beater, plenty of people seem happy with 111mm ISO cartridge BBs such as Campag Centaur, and the #tester_approved Token ones come in 111mm ISO/Italian too.

  • Neither nor, a beater with french threads :/ Hence my attempt to swap the spindle without changing the cups. The only french threaded iso tapered bb with the right width I could find is an skf for £150 which is way beyond the budget for this build (bought the frame for 80€). I guess that leaves me with the following options:

    • Get the bb shell chamfered and get a mavic bb. Pricy and a hassle but iso.
    • Velo Orange french threaded BB
    • Velo Orange threadless BB
    • Or one of those cheapo Neco BBs with french threaded cups from ebay.
The latter three options are all jis afaik.
  • I guess that leaves me with the following options:

The other option is to throw the frame in a skip, where anything French-threaded belongs :)

  • No can do, the frame is a perfect fit and a lovely ride + I get attached too easily :)

  • Cheers, good spot! However, I'm afraid that 107mm iso will cause some chainstay clearance issues. 111mm iso campa gives me a chainline of 43mm and there's not much space left:
not dimpled... i know, the frame is a challenge to say the least. I guess I'll save the DA cranks for a non skip-worthy frame in the future, get a cheap 107mm Jis BB & throw on a single drive side starfish from the parts bin & some other nds crank arm.

  • I've got some wheels that are tapped to take M6 bolts instead of QR, I have bolts but need some kind of chunky washer to use with the bolts as don't think bolts and standard m6 washers alone will give enough purchase. Like the things you get with goldtec/phil etc.

These but not £12 a pair and don't need bolts

    Any suggestions?

  • will crank/bb bolts fit?

  • M6 countersunk washer with appropriate bolts? 10p each.

  • Are rain & carbon rims totally incompatible? Am I wasting my time / making things worse if I use them with a mudguarded setup?

  • Don't think they're M6? Will check.

@umop3pisdn these could possibly work well with 16mm serrated washers thanks

  • It's so that I can generate a map showing the whole of the route we took around Iceland. I've got 12 separate .fit files, one for each day, and I'd like to generate a single file for the whole trip.

  • Stitch the GPX files together instead - unless you want HR or something else specific to the FIT file?

  • Why's the logo yellow?
