  • Rubbish. It's held together my rugby team for years...

(that and Deep Heat, which is similarly ineffective: "Someone chuck me over some of that stuff that makes you smell brave!")

  • @Scilly.Suffolk it's a new one. No mention of singlespeed on the packaging, and there's also mention of "road" and a logo of 2 rings of different sizes. I'm hoping it's for a double ring set-up, simply basic. It's Stronglight though, so who knows...

@mdcc_tester I was hoping you'd say something along those lines.

  • I had mine self-amalgamate themselves to the rubber inserts one finds on Hope Vision One clamps.
It stopped being an issue when I changed from using Hope clamps, to using Exposure ones for attaching the lights.
I have no fondness for PVC. Not for insulation nor apparel.

  • cheers for all the fitbit tips.

  • I've got a rotor 3d24 cranket, 110bcd double. If I want just want to use a single chainring for hill climbs do I need to get some shorter chainring bolts? If so what type?

  • Yes.

Velosolo have both Stronglight and Zenith (scroll down to near the bottom of the page).

  • Thanks - looks like they're away this month. I didn't think about it but I can probably just use my track chainring bolts temporally then?

  • Plenty of other places stock them, but it sounds like you already have some. :)

  • Cheers Scilly, you've saved me a few £'s and g's here.

  • Can someone recommend me an affordable replacement BB30 BB that won't fall apart after 200 miles?

  • Contact rotor customer support, they tend to be prompt and helpful.

  • I have this and the sugino ones work well.

  • FSA ones are on sale at Wiggle at the mo; £15.

Kept dry and clean it should be OK.

Enduro bearings will do something but spendy...

  • Is the free cutting service at B&Q actually decent? I need 16 pieces of board cut into a few different sized rectangales, ideally to a tolerance of +/-1mm (probably much better than I can manage at home). I've drawn out a cutting diagram for all the parts using 2D CAD leaving a 3mm allowance for the saw blade between parts. Is it reasonable for me to expect them to do this for me or should I stop being lazy and just cut them myself?

  • I've never used the service, but I think they generally have wall / panel saws in B&Q - saves floorspace.
From my own experience of using one of these at work, +/- 1mm tolerance shouldn't be at all difficult to achieve.
Assuming the saw has been well maintained, it's going to be down to the saw operator rather than the saw.
ETA - I'd tell them the size of the panel(s) you want, and don't get into the additional complexity of the thickness of the blade. Just sayin'.....
ETFA - Having further re-read your post, any sawsmith should be able to follow your cutting pattern provided that you've remembered not just the blade thickness but, equally importantly, how much longer (than your panel size) a cut needs to be made to be effective, whilst taking into account the radius of the blade.

  • Any suggestions for websites to scrape FX rates for free (easily)? It used to be possible on Oanda but they've changed it now so subscription only and my minimal use isn't enough to justify paying.

  • guys, you have any suggestions of a disc fork 1 -1/8" Threadless with classic look that is not mega heavy and not mega money... i was looking at the Ritchey WCS Carbon Disc Cross Fork but is lots of money and not super classic looking... having mixed feelings if i should go for carbon or steel
is for a frame i am currently building

  • THX !looks superb! and nice price!

only one problem i forgot to mention.... tire size, 28 is kinda "small", i was thinking 32 plus mudguards... :-/ ... they say max 28 but maybe could be a bit more...? i am searching

  • @jBola what a-c do you need? A gravel/winter road fork would be around 377mm, CX/utility is between 390 and 400mm.
    That would narrow it down.

  • hum, i am thinking more winter road, when you say utility you mean rack and paniers on the front? i think i won't be doing front ortliebs for now.

i like the straight blades on this all city: http://allcitycycles.com/parts/forks/macho_man_disc_cross

but carbon would be half the weight!! thats why i want carbon, but price is also a problem....
the condor is looking good on all accounts, except the tire size...

  • Strong, light, cheap; pick any two...

  • @jBola is it for a road frame, or a CX one? It's not a bad idea to choose a fork that has a similar a-c than the one that was originally fitted with the frame.

  • There's a version of How Does It Make You Feel by Air somewhere that is almost entirely instrumental bar a vocal chorus. I.e. it doesn't have the robot sex worker talking. Does anyone know where I might find a copy? It's basically like the last 2 minutes of the song but a longer version of it. I could probably make it by looping those bits but I'd like to find the actual cut.
