  • 28h track hub, black and preferably bolt up, where from? Can't find any of the usual option. I've considered tensile but they're very light and as this will be on a CX bike I'd prefer a bit more weight for peace of mind.

  • Suede is thinner than normal leather. Rough out is not.

  • Out of stock according to their website. And I was hoping for more the £30 Novatec end of the spectrum.

  • "Sie" should have an initial capital (without this, it means 'do they speak German?').

  • Schick drops the Schience.

  • When choosing between German and Spanish in the 6th grade my father told me to go for German as I'd get more use out of it. I've been to Germany twice and everyone spoke English, I've travelled extensively through latin America where nobody speaks English and all I know is German (and Swedish but didn't have much success with that, either) Excellent advice, dad.

The problem is not that they speak English but that they won't speak German to you. :)

  • And there was me thinking that this was because I asked the lady in the shop how much do /you/ cost, rather than how much does /this/ cost...

Three exchange trips to Germany, and getting someone to speak German to you was a nightmare, they all wanted to practice their english.

  • Bloody forriners: stayin' over there and using our language!!!!

  • And there was me thinking that this was because I asked the lady in the shop how much do /you/ cost, rather than how much does /this/ cost...

    Er? Does not compute.

    "Wieviel kosten Sie?"
    "Wieviel kostet es/das hier?"

Or do you mean something like "diese Gegenstände, wieviel kosten sie?" You would tend to use a demonstrative pronoun instead of a personal pronoun in this sort of situation.

Three exchange trips to Germany, and getting someone to speak German to you was a nightmare, they all wanted to practice their English.

Exactly. The only reason is because it's easier to acquire basic fluency in English than in German, although German gets easier the more you learn--English gets harder.

  • Do you have to sand down primer before colour coat when rattle-canning, or OK to just spray straight on?

  • In my bad german, "wieviel kosten du?", rather than "wieviel kosten das?" as I recall :)
The look that I got in return was sometime else entirely...

Yes, that would have raised a few eyebrows.

    "Wieviel kostest du?"
    "Wieviel kostet das?"

"Kosten" (I'm only spelling it with a capital here as it is at the beginning of the sentence) is either the infinitive, third person plural ("sie kosten"), or polite form ("Sie kosten").

  • I think I was trying to find out how much a bar of Milka cost, so had it at hand to point at, which didn't seem to make anything better.

  • Was it on sale in Netto? Because you only buy Milka when it's on sale. Did you see Lidl over here stocks Ritter Sport sometimes?

  • Or the first person plural form ("wir kosten")

Or the end of the word "Nebenkosten" (≈ extra costs)

Or the middle of the made-up word "Seebärkostenabrechnung" (calculating the costs of a sea lion)

Or the middle of the made up word "Feinkostengel" ("fine food angel")

Or the middle of the made-up nonsense word "Bankostentschlüsselung" ("bank east decoding")

  • On that note, what car bearing puller should I get to remove a crank?
Threads are stripped and LBS can't tap to 23mm size.

It's a Sugino Gran Mighty in champagne so I don't want to bin it.

If somebody has a Drive Side lonely crank...that would work too ;)

  • I got a fairly cheap three armed bearing puller off ebay. Should be easy enough to find. Only ever used it once and it has sat in the tool box since but that one time was worth the purchase to save the BB and crank (cottered cranks + middle of nowhere).
