Yep, suspect I bought them even cheaper than that too. I'll find something cheap and appropriate somewhere.
Building up bikes always turns out more complicated than you expect. Just realised there's no cable guide around the BB. Another thing to get! And a new quill stem too, the one I had is not good. -

Brill. Thanks.
I should have known there'd be a Bearings R Us". I surprised there's no Mr/Capt Bearings and Bearings World...

Salsa have changed distributor recently according to my lbs, this may be the cause.
Edit: not sure it impacts Europe tho?

Is bb30 going to consign me to life of squeaky bottom brackets ?
-
• #71583
Thanks for the link, that could very well be the same for other eu distributors (I've only found German and UK sites stocking the handlebar).
I guess I'll just have to wait. :/ -

Ha. ^^ I'd not got this far yet. Obviously more well-informed minds than mine are on the case!

Not in my experience. I have 2 bb30 bikes which are both quiet. Using a proper bb30 chainset rather than an adapted one though.

As long it's fitted properly and not submerged in waters, it'll be fine.
The water is usually the main culprit as modern frames have no way of draining the water other than going through the bearing.

Anyone traveling from Stoke on Trent to London this week and able to bring a bike back? Monies/beer/gratitude available in reasonable measures...

Im building a porteur style bike and am confused which handlebar diameter to go for... Velo Orange porteur 22.2 or 23.8? 22.2 will let me use a Paul thumbie for a down tube, but not much bar end lever choice. Or the opposite problem with 22.2. Any advice?

I'm in Stoke at the mo, not heading to London anytime soon though.

Checked with Rivendell? They seem to have some combos of internal/external that might work for you.

Don't submerge it in water, install with grease.
Mine uses wheelsMFG adapters so it has a little bit of shielding for the occasional downpour, but I live in a place where it only rains 2 months a year.
Maintenance:
- Remove crank
- Remove adapters/covers
- Use a pick to carefully remove shield
4a. If grease is in good condition from when you last checked(clean, looks like new etc), just repack with the same grease.
4b. If there is crud in and around the hole (no euph), flush out with degreaser, cotton bud, let dry. Repack with grease. - Replace shield, cover/adapter, crank.
I haven't had to replace my bearings yet, I use the sram red ones, only because that's what I was given free with the frame.
Edit: How bizarre, microcosm likes to number things 4a, 4b, 4, rather than 4a, 4b, 5...
- Remove crank

Does anyone know the name of a UK manufacturer of high end CNC machined bike lights? I thought I'd bookmarked their page weeks ago and now can't find them anywhere. They had a nice, but pricy rear light that you could fit under a saddle like the Exposure Tracer but it was made out of what appeared to be a single piece of metal.
Apologies for vagueness.

^ Fuck me. I post it on here after struggling to find them on Google for about a week and I now go search again and here they are:
