  • Blame our Norwegian member! He's got me checking everything against the lists on WW.

These are coming in at 1,380 grams and they are 28H.

What's your budget? Do they have to be clinchers?

  • tune mig/mag are great hubs; mine laced with sapim laser to ambrosio crono f20, 32h as i'm more portly than ye

  • QUESTION
What is it with large frames (60cm+) they never seem to come up for sale ! especially high end Titanium frames, I've been looking for over a year with no luck. I'm beginning to think they just don't exist,am I looking in the wrong place?
    Anybody!!

  • They don't have to be clinchers, but I think it probably wise to choose them for ease of p_nctr repair. I'm willing to consider tubs for the right wheels however.

Budget is as close as I can get to £400, but willing to increase that for the right set of wheels.

For example I'd not buy those complete wheels from Posh Bikes, I'd buy the bits and get the Ginger One to build them as a) Jim builds awesome wheels and b) it'll save a bit of cash.

In other news my Sram Force shifters and mechs arrived today.

You are freakishly tall, abandon all hope of ever finding anything that will fit you.

  • what about those?
    WEIGHT: 1345 gr (F 580 gr,R 765 gr)

  • Ti frames = small niche. Tall people = small niche.

Small niche x small niche = small niche squared.

there is some stuff here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread58505.html#post1920798

  • I'm looking at getting some lightweight wheels- 20 fr and 24 rear?

Tell us which rims first - that will make a huge difference. 20/24 on Zipp 808s is a Clydesdale build, 20/24 on low profile rims is something entirely different.

  • I was thinking about these: http://www.xx-light-bikes.de/shop/pd1202711043.htm?categoryId=53

Would they crumple as soon as I put a foot on a pedal?

EDIT\ Then there are these which are 28H http://www.xx-light-bikes.de/shop/pd-1355557707.htm?categoryId=53

  • Both 24H and 28H are approx 375g

Well, not entirely if you are using the same spokes.

    *Gets coat.

  • I'm willing to consider tubs for the right wheels however.

I've got a lovely pair of 24h Mavic CX18 rims for sale if you're after a metal weight weenie tubular. 666g for the pair including some glue residue.

  • I think for that sort of weight difference I'd prefer clinchers, I was thinking about tubs with reference to carbon rims really.

  • You are freakishly tall, abandon all hope of ever finding anything that will fit you.

    Thanks for the tip 'Dammit'
So I guess I'll need the hacksaw and the Superglue after all!!!

  • You could save up and buy a new one.

  • Have a search around for the posts of a member called thecrane (or possibly the crane), he had a custom Ti Burls built for him, and he's around 6'6".

Should give you some ideas. Other than that the Dutch guys post up large sizes frequently, although I've never seen Ti.

  • Thanks
Has anybody had any experience of importing second hand from the US.
I'm told you get hit with both vat and import duty so making a reasonably priced item very expensive mistake.

  • Fake gift is the only way.

  • Hubs would be 75+190=265g, rims 373*2=746, so 1,011 for that- how much weight should I budget for in 56 spokes and attendant nipples?

  • Also, that's £400 for rims and hubs, so build and spokes+nipples need to be figured in.

  • About 280-290g for CX-Rays with Al. nips, according to http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings/components.php?type=spokes

  • So, 1,300 plus rim strips then. That's not to be sneezed at.

Where is the best place to price up the spokes? I'm finding scary prices with my Googling at the moment!

  • CX-Rays are Eur.2.40 each at https://www.starbike.com/php/suchen.php?lang=en&b=Sapim&q=

If you care less about aero, DT Revolution are 53p each at http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/products/tech/spokes-and-nipples/

  • Does the spoke profile make a big difference? These are climbing wheels, so aero was not high on my list of requirements to be honest.
