  • The film thread is a bit busy so asking this here instead.

Snappy Snaps want £10 something for processing a role of Ilford HP5 and scanning to CD.

This seems stupid expensive to me, where can I go that will do it cheaper? Anywhere in zone 1/2 is fine.

  • And I suppose this should go into the Hipster thread too:

Can I get my Blundstone's re soled and heeled? The internet suggests yes, but mostly if I'm American.

Anyone know of anywhere in London that does them specifically? If not I'll try my 'open when I fancy it' cobblers.

  • I believe he bought that number 2 spot
there was an auction for it a while back

Worth pointing out that the money went to the London Courier Emergency Fund.

  • ...and the creme eggs, and the boat....

  • group hug

  • I just parked the car on a steep slope, facing nose down.

I always leave the car in gear, with the handbrake on, but this time I thought I'd see how effective the leaving it in gear thing would be if the handbrake cable snapped.

The answer is- "ish", the engine turned over twice- backwards one must presume, and the car lurched forward each time the engine turned over.

Now the slope is very steep, and the car is a large estate car- so the question is this: should the weight and the slope have overcome the compression of the engine?

The engine was recently rebuilt with new valve seals, piston rings and head gasket, so I was surprised.

  • Yes

  • Let's hope so or you've sod all chance of a bump start.

  • Fair enough, I'll not worry about it then. I suppose, thinking about it, that it matters not to the engine that it is spinning in reverse.

  • Oh is does - if you do it long enough, you'll find your fuel tank will overflow.

  • So, what is the name of the LFGSS book going to be?

  • Next question- I weigh 80kg nekkid.

I'm looking at getting some lightweight wheels- 20 fr and 24 rear?

  • The LFGSS Book

    You had it right there.

  • Next question- I weigh 80kg nekkid.

I'm looking at getting some lightweight wheels- 20 fr and 24 rear?

If you don't cycle in the buff this weight means nothing.

  • Ok, assume 2kg for clothes.

  • Same as me near as. I can't see any point in saving the weight of a few spokes to go as low as that. The roads in this nation are far too shocking.

  • My current Mavic Ksyriums have 18 spokes front and 20 rear and they have been rock solid.

  • Mine too, actually, fair point. Was automatically thinking of "ordinary" wheels - i.e. non-bladed elbowed spokes etc.

  • Which, to be fair I might still end up going for.

I have a hankering for these:

My track wheels are 36H/3 cross front and rear, which seems to be strong enough.

The road wheels are going to be (primarily) climbing wheels, so light weight is important however.

  • Weightweenies is that way >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    :P

  • compression ratio will only be about 9:1, and the slower it turns over the easier as there is more time to get past the rings, etc

  • What goes up must come down. So they are descending wheels as well. If you're doing that on butter smooth continental roads, that's one thing. Doing it on shite potholed bollox roads like we have here is quite another. Then again, I live in Surrey with its truly awful roads. Barely a ride goes by without some sort of spine crunching drop into a bucket in the road.

  • Blame our Norwegian member! He's got me checking everything against the lists on WW.

These are coming in at 1,380 grams and they are 28H.

  • compression ratio will only be about 9:1, and the slower it turns over the easier as there is more time to get past the rings, etc

8.5:1 actually, good point about the speed.
