  • Wondering which toe clips i should get with the mks sylvan touring pedals. Plastic or steel? Single or double? I want to use them with vans-style shoes. Any sugestions?

  • Steel will be rougher on your shoes, plastic won't last as long.
    Your choice.

  • I want to use them with vans-style shoes. Any sugestions?

    Grant Petersen says Just Ride

Sylvan Touring + Vans will stick to one another just fine without any help from clips and straps.

  • How much would be a sensible offer on a 2014 (c. 1yr old) Genesis Equilibrium 20 frame+forks (reynolds 725)?

Ugly colour scheme (the cream one), a years worth of paint chips and scuffs but no dents.

I can't quite get excited about the Equilibrium but want something with space for full guards.

  • Since you buy a new one for £400 , you probably want to offer £200 if you're buying.

  • My new mtb frame is supposed to be used with a 130mm - 150mm travel fork. I'm not finding many good cheap forks within those travel specs for 26" wheel,QR dropouts and straight 1 1/8" steerer. Could a shorter (120mm ish) travel 29er fork be fitted and used with a 26" wheel without upsetting the geometry of the frame?

  • Probably, but it'd look well weird. Get on Singletrackworld, you should easily find a Revelation of Pike for cheap.

  • 29er fork, fat front wheel and reduce the travel?

    :-)

  • Or pinkbike have loads of stuff.

  • 20/20 hindsight...

Do you know of anyone else that might come visiting?

Or someone going out there who might be sent back when the ozzies realise who they've given a visa too?

  • is there a way to determine the cable routing on FD-6800 without the special tool? Is it possible to just print out a 1:1 scale picture of the tool, glue it on a piece of cardboard and use that? alternatively is there an easy rule of thumb for routing these derailleurs?

  • 29er fork, fat front wheel and reduce the travel?

    :-)

    Now there's a shout.

  • Just pull the cable and tighten the bolt, they're not necessary.

    (5800 here).

  • Your concern is pedal strike + rideable terrain limitation by fitting a shorter fork. #dontknowwhatimtalkingabout

Out of interest - What's the headtube angle fitted with the correct fork? (if it's <68° I may have a point).

  • No idea what the headtube angle is, geo charts are non existent and I'd have no idea how to ensure it myself.

My thinking was that the a2c would be similar between a long travel 26er for and a short travel 29er fork this keeping the bb height etc where it needs to be.

  • Join Australian Hardcourt on FB and ask there...

Dave BOGear is a mate, I'm sure he'll help you out any way he can... Good people...

  • Would anyone happened to have a spare profile ghd crank bolt please?

  • So ages ago I was posted here with some drivetrain issues that had left me totally flummoxed.

I swapped the (old, maybe a little bent) Wipperman 10sp quicklink for a KMC version which is a little lower profile, thinner and more of a PITA to remove. It's not touching the cogs on the cassette as the Wipperman did so all is quiet and smooth.

Wipperman. Vorsprung durch Technik but chunky and overbuilt #casualracism

Cheers for all the tips and pointers. Although disappointed nobody suggested burning the bike and riding fixed.

  • Would 50 or so issues of Stuff magazine from '08 to now ever be worth anything?

  • Seems unlikely, with a circulation of 60,000 and no obvious cult following. If you price up the cubit foot of living space they're occupying, you'll probably find they're costing more to store per annum than they will ever realise.

  • cubit foot of living space

    older than you look...

  • Many have said so. A cubit foot is a measure of area, but not one anybody has ever used. I like the acre foot as a measure of volume, approximately half an Olympic swimming pool.

  • Shallow or deep end?

  • To be precise, an Olympic pool of uniform depth is almost exactly 2 acre feet. It's a bit more if it has the usual, but not mandatory, sloping bottom.

  • I do prefer a sloping bottom.
