One Hyde Park: what do you get for £140m? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/constructionandproperty/8268796/One-Hyde-Park-what-do-you-get-for-140m.html

Well I'd like to think I'd get a decent flat and £130mn in cash on the mat inside the front door

  • Who the hell is going to buy that penthouse? It's like a hotel. Doesn't really look homely at all.

  • Oh and with 140M surely you could buy a much bigger nicer house for that?

According to the Fashion thread, you pay to have something bespoke and unique. What's the chance of someone else having the same apartment? Of course you can buy from the ex-council stock, but it will probably not last long and fall apart.

  • Incidentally, anyone actually use a 3D printer for work? Perhaps in an architectural firm/similar?

Preferably not a little open-source job, but something a bit more high tech.

  • How to cabbies even begin to research The Knowledge? Staggering.

Lots a nice racism in that as I recall. Like asking the black bloke - and only him - the way from the Black Boy Inn to Niggar Lane etc. Salt of the earth and always pay their tax of course.

  • ^ I like some of the naughty ads on that size. A lot are a bit shit, but some are gold.

  • ^^ Fucking stupid criminals.

  • ^^ Fucking stupid **clever **criminals.

The systematic rapine of the Russian people is ugly, vicious and murderous, but it has not been done by stupid people. The infiltration of the offices of state control by criminal gangs during and immediately after the declining years of the Soviet has allowed them to buy politicians with the same money that politicians have handed over to them for nothing. It's a clever scam, albeit one wide open to exploitation under any totalitarian government.

  • About 1/5 of this $1bn mansion

What aways gets to me, is British media calling them "oligarchs", oil magnates and such.
Fuck off. They're common thieves, the lot of them. There was no private business in the Soviet Union. There was no way you could legally make enough money to buy off privatised companies.
If you compare Russia with other countries of the former "Soviet Bloc" you will see, that everywhere else they've almost dealt with the corrupted way the industry was privatised. Many of those Polish "magnates" from the first wave of privatisation are now in jails. They all build their capitals from smuggling, money laundering and extortion.

  • Some Ruskie in the village next to me has just slapped a very tasteful chopper pad on the roof of his Grade 2 listed gaff. Looks like it's made of MDF and scaffold poles. How TF did that get planning permission, as if I couldn't guess.
