  • A clubhouse - a video company has approached my sports club to do a bit of filming of someone learning an unusual sport. Clubhouse is scraggy and dirty, but local to the company they are doing the promo for, and the sport is unusual.

  • Thanks Tester and attaque! As far as I can tell the stronglights are JIS so the UN55 will do nicely.

  • Why are the buttons on calculators and phones reversed?

  • I live in a rented flat with a huge, communal rooftop - how do I go about owning a section, and then funding and building a studio flat? If Kevin McCloud lurks here, I'd really appreciate his advice.

How would that put the context into the narrative of the building?

  • Why are bicycle drivechains on the right?

    They aren't all are they?

Some ex polo player had bmx cranks with the drive on the left? Hassan?

  • Why are bicycle drivechains on the right?

Because sprockets are threaded onto hubs (the lunacy of this is another matter, but it's how it is). Having the chain on the right means the sprocket can have a conventional right-handed thread

  • Some BMX shit is left hand drive because some people prefer to grind stuff to the right side of them and it stops their drivechain getting fucked up. Mainly, anyone who likes things on the left is sinister and weird and should be rightly ostracised for being a lefty bullshit weirdo.

  • Why are bicycle drivechains on the right?

Is the search broken ;) (Being sarcastic)

There seem to be several possible reasons, such as you (well most people) push off with your right foot, right hand side away from pedestrians... threading as mentioned earlier, but what seems to be the reason is that the first bikes with chain drive were like that so others copied that

Doesn't seem to be any hard or fast reasons why.

And you'd like to know how much to charge?

Mimics the old rotary dial where the '1' was at the top and the 7-9 numbers at the bottom. Maybe - I dunno...

    That's good enough for me.

    I also found this -

A second theory refers to a study done by Bell Labs in 1960. This study involved testing several different telephone-keypad layouts to find out which was easiest to master. After testing several layouts, including one that used two rows with five numbers each and another that used a circular positioning, it was determined that the three-by-three matrix that had 1, 2 and 3 across the top was the easiest for people to use.

  • My halo aerowarrior rear wheel is in need of a good servicing and I'd like to replace it with something a bit more sexy on my all-black steamroller.

what wheel do people think I should get instead with a max budget of £300 (though ideally not that much)

I run a 23c gatorskin hardshell in terms of what tyre needs to go on it.

    no braking surface needed obvs.

  • Is weight a concern? IMHO you may as well get somebody to build you up some black DP18s with decent spokes on decent hubs. Will cost you a lot less than £300 and run like tank tracks.

  • ^^ Are you riding brakeless now?

  • i said sexy dammit*

not brakless but I don't run a rear brake cos fixed innit.

    *not sexy 'dammit' though, shudder

  • If I were you I'd buy some decent hubs spoke and rims and get them built. You prob want a braking surface on the front. I've had a few sets of wheels with no braking surface and whilst they eventually perform well it takes a while for the paint to wear off and they are a nightmare in the wet.

As for sexy, you're on your own there. Couldn't think of anything worse than buying bike parts for looks.

  • I only want a rear Dan, y u no read. the practicality is pretty much covered by anything, aesthetics can be important too though.

and you've had plenty of stupid crabon wheels before. mr my bike's all about the utility.

  • When I click on my subscribed threads work every now and then blocks LFGSS as adult content. I can't think what the 'problem' might be.

I thought maybe the Bike Porn thread might be a prob but it seems to get through OK. Any ideas which threads/words/phrases might be the issue?

I'd ask IT but don't want to admit to spending most of the day on no-work related sites.

  • mainly, anyone who likes things on the left is sinister

    iswydt

It was probably Bothwell's ride report

  • Why are expensive stems so expensive? What's the difference between a £20 alu stem and an £80 alu stem?

  • about £60

  • i'd guess it's down to how they are machined to make them lighter, better quality materials. mamil tax.

  • about £60

    must spread rep
