  • thanks :)

Yes I'm looking to make the big move to clippy in peddles or whatever the technical term is!

Have been recommended to get MTB instead of road shoes despite the fact that I don't plan on mountain biking.. but more for Tesco shopping and not sliding around the place!

Can anyone recommend a good mid-range shoe that will also be comfortable for a long cycle (6 days - Malin to Mizen Head in Ireland). I've been told to get Shimano peddles M520 SPD. Does every MTB shoe fit on these?

    Thanks for any tips :)

  • Hi Laura, I'm just going to pitch in and say that I've been wearing my Shimano M063 shoes almost every day for 6 years and have found them incredibly comfortable and hard-wearing in that time. I also run Shimano M520 SPDs like you were advised, so can vouch for the set up. I believe the shoes cost me around 40 quid new from CRC. There'll no doubt be newer versions of that shoe out now, and you can spend ludicrous amounts of money on cycling shoes, but truthfully anything around that ball park will do you fine for what you want them for, assuming they do ladies sizes that is. And yes, it's the cleat that fixes to the bottom of the shoe that determines the pedal compatibility, so any dedicated cycling shoes that allow SPD cleats will fit to those pedals.

  • Re venue for tribute bands - Half Moon Putney worth a look

  • Going to the Renior cinema at the Brunswick to tomorrow. Where shall I eat beforehand - walking distance - that has outside space and is good? The usual suspects at the Brunswick seem a bit meh

  • If in the Brunswick area I like hare and tortoise. No outside though.

Nice one. Quite a good looking place - lots on. Not quite what I need when but it might get a visit soon anyway. Ta

Norfolk Arms on Leigh Street for tapas. Chili Cool just down the street for Szechuan.

If you want to do both of these things, you might be happier with these kind of pedals instead:

You'll then be able to ride with either MTB shoes for your touring cycling, or normal shoes for when you're doing things that involve walking around town (shopping in cleats gets really old, really quickly).

  • What's the cheapest and decent way to paint carbon frame and forks?

  • Thanks Dom.

  • wait until Tester comes online, tells you what screws they are and where to order them for ten pence each.

Look like these, (M4 X 8) but measure yours first

That would be my guess just from looking at the picture, but some of those facing plates have M3 threads.

    As I'm a tart, I'd get A4 grade Torx from http://www.accuscrews.co.uk/32-hexalobular-countersunk-screws, £2/£3 per 100 plus VAT & shipping

  • What's the best free tool for downloading/recording audio streamed from a website? A computerphobe mate has asked me if I can grab a broadcast from an Icelandic radio website.
I've looked at GetFLV and VSO Dowloader, but both have limits on their trial versions that stop me getting the whole broadcast.

  • Audacity? Set it to record the output.

  • I've had a go with Audacity, but the output is crackly. I could very easily be doing something wrong, of course!

  • Audacity is good.
Download soundflower and it will be recognised as an interface.
Set audacity to record from soundflower and set your hardware audio output to send to soundflower.

  • Would Shimano R400 single speed brake levers work with Tektro Oryx canti's?
Also, what would the equivalent lever that could go on the end of bullhorns?

  • Yes, and there isn't really an 'equivalent' since Shimano don't do a Tiagra grade TT lever, but Tektro do, something like an RX4.1

Soundflower looks good, but I think that it's Mac only. Do you know if there's a Windows equivalent?

I'm a mac lad but pals use jackaudio...

  • Had my Christopher Raeburn rucksack with MBP and iPad Air in it stolen last night.

Should I be changing passwords on email/eBay/PayPal etc?

  • Yes. It's very easy to get into a macbook without knowing the password. Change everything.

  • On a serious note - buy them. Fall over a few times. Get confident. Never fall over again

^this. I wouldn't even bother with the falling over stage, there's no need. I would honestly describe cleats as life changing.

  • Set the tension as low as possible for a while to allow for the odd panic unclip. Once it becomes second nature, ramp up the spring tension.
