On the off chance, don't suppose anyone has any genuine experience with construction/basement conversion (and cost of the same) that they would be happy to share for beer/other appropriate remuneration in kind (loads of high quality free books if interested)? Essentially looking at a house with extension potential, planning permission is in place, would be great to get a vaguely informed opinion on what it might cost from the plans. Trying to arrange to get a contractor round to quote is proving tricky at short notice, so an informed opinion would be useful at this stage. No liability will be assumed! Cheers

Fox knows all about creepy Fritzl basement conversions, he's even got a thread about his somewhere in current projects.

I have admired his mancave efforts but I'm looking more towards the underpinning foundations, excavating tonnes of earth and building extensions end of the home improvement spectrum...

Did anyone watch the ONE SHOW tonight? I don't normally watch it but I turned on the TV to a feature about younger guys making friends/spending a day with senior chaps (widowers etc) who were lonely and don't get out of the house much. This is something that I have always said I'd like to do but I missed the start of the feature so didn't get the details. I'd like to get involved. Can anyone help? Cheers.

I've done a bit with these guys in Brixton, really nice organisation and they do 'run to elderly people' thing where you get connected with someone who would benefit from a bit of interaction, then you run to them once a week for a cup of tea and a chat... could be what you're looking for? http://blog.goodgym.org/how-it-works-2/

I'm a friend of Mark Herbert, was he on telly? Glad to hear this is still going.

A rack and mudguard, the brake will be in the hub, either a coaster or a drum brake with the torque arm p-clipped to the chainstay.

There was another one like this, in the way back machine.
I don't remember the upshot; it may have been the same as tester's assertion. -

I recall a proper tube bridge drilled radially with respect to the wheel, and a brake which fitted it, but there's no way that thin stamped sheet is designed to take braking loads.

shirley the paint would ratchet up the strength by many magnitudes?
Whats the limit on cassette size using a SRAM rival short cage RD? I'm assuming 28 no?
I normally run 11-25 PG1070 but I've got a "challenging" ride up in Yorkshire this weekend and I feel I might benefit from some more gears... Thinking of the 12-28
