So have I, toured, commuted, etc. once the bearing wear out, replaced it with the Phil Wood one instead.
Phil Wood hubs for Novatec money.
What are so special about the phil wood bearings?

Better than the standard, thought tester have a better suggestion.

Yeah, the cups only seem to be of any use if you have a crankset already that you want to use and don't have any BB30 problems.
-
• #56680
Reducer cups? They will just leave you with an inferior 24mm spindled crank and the same reliability problems inherent to BB30. Better off to either bang in a BSA adapter and use external 24mm cups or learn to live with BB30.
Tip - token ceramic / ti. bearings seemed fairly resilient, especially if packed with phil grease before installation. After a wet ride pull the cranks off and clean and dry the whole shebang to reduce the chance of it seizing due to water pooling in the BB.
Neither should be affected by water if you use the correct grease.

Or if you don't ride it.

Phil doesnt make bearing so decent skf/fag will be fine

Or never ride in the rain

Youve nailed it - the adapter was what I was looking for, I just couldn't find it as I kept googling for reducer cups.
Thanks for the tip on the token bearings. I shall look into them. But the 'fun' of crank removal after a wet ride isn't really something I'm keen on. It is for the caadx after all, so wet ride = all rides.

Use marine grease in the bearing
-
• #56686
Or SKF for half the price of Phil's bearings
2rs, lift one side, clean and a add more grease.
Recent bearings I've had haven't had as much grease as before and seen bearing failing at less than 3,000 miles from new.

The marines don't mind?

Back to a moment of seriousness
I use renolite aqua 2
High quality water-resistant grease
RENOLIT AQUA 2 is a water-resistant grease suitable for all applications where resistance to water, salt water, or cutting fluids, either by submersion or wash off is required.
It is manufactured to DEF STAN 91-34/1 and NATO G-460 for lubrication and protection against corrosion of mechanisms submerged in seawater or subject to
wave action and the washing effect of heavy seas.
Industrial applications subject to water or cutting fluid wash off.
Automotive, quarry and mining applications in wet areas.
Boats and boat trailers.
Suitable for stern tube greasing.
Bearings subject to high alkalinity or degreasing fluids and washes.
Booms on cranes, wire ropes etc.As it was what the chandler stocked.
