Weinmann Vainqueur centre-pull brakes - any good? I need some long reach (70mm at the rear, 65mm at the front) brakes, preferably from the late 70s/early 80s. I appreciate they're going to be nowhere near as effective as modern double-pivot sidepulls, but are there any better options out there?
I think most Vainqueurs have nylon bushes in the pivots, which are likely to be well worn on any which aren't NOS or near-to*. Also, the stock hangers, especially the front one, are very flexy, leading to wasted movement in the actuation. That aside, using new cartridge pad holders with modern compound pads will bring them most of the way up to the standard of anything current in that depth.
*If you were a proper tart, you could re-bush them with Oilite® :-)

Well, I've ordered them anyway! The front's going to be a bit touch and go in terms of reach, but we'll see. Thanks for the tip on the nylon bushes. I've got a bit of phosphor bronze here doing nothing, so I could quite easily turn down some bushes if they're goosed.

Ultegra Hollowtech bottom bracket used to go in a throw the chain between the ring and the derailleur in a nearly stuck for good way on a ride and I then had to take the train or wobble home depending on distance.
Now after 10k/pa I have found a slight wobble cleaning the chain. Is it possible to give any predictions how this might last on the weekend?

M.I.A. - "Bad Girls" (Official Video) - YouTube
She's not Arab, her parents are Sri Lankian, she was born in the UK, she is 38 years old, plus the visual content of the video.
Just what the fuck is going on?
It's a music video. Does it have to relate to her heritage? Do all UK artists have to make music videos of them waiting for the bus in the rain?

It happened on a downhill section and when we stopped there was what we then found to be a very, very mamil bike shop in maybe Maresfield?

Of course it was there. You are the man. That we spotted doing laps of Kidds Hill?
The mechanic interrupted a build on a Saturday morning to have a look at my bike after I had gotten the chain out of its misery by cheer force. Thank you again.

For informing me that no tightening of the cranks will solve a broken bottom bracket.

What was moser's reasoning behind the hour record bike? Looks like it'd be heavier and less aero.

permanent downhill. coasting for an hour is pretty easy.

Her artistic output has always made reference to being a sort of "child of the world". She often remarks on her heritage and the mish-mash of cultural influences on her character which she wholly embraces.
As for the video, her work should be looked at and compared to that of other innovative/cutting edge video artists who aren't simply making promo/performance videos but stand alone works of art in their own right. I'm talking about Bjork, Radiohead, Sígur Rós, Arcade Fire, Kanye West etc... artists who you can rely on to try new and adventurous things with their videos.
For further reference, check out Romanek/Gavras/Glazer/Cunningham/Gondry et al
I think there's a short documentary about the making of the Bad Girls video where Maya explains that she saw videos on youtube of these Arabian guys ghost riding and other such stuff, thought it was cool and wanted to make a video that featured them. Simple as that really.

That's the later 'sea level' bike, not the Mexico 51.151 version. I think the big wheel was probably intended to clean up the wake. I've heard it said that a large part of the benefit of disc rear wheels is not the drag reduction from the wheel in isolation, but the way the large surface area smooths wake turbulence coming off the rest of the bike. Extending that benefit further up the bike than the 700mm permitted by post-Lugano UCI limits might have been a good idea. Heavier is pretty irrelevant when you're aiming to hold a constant speed on a level surface for about 59½ minutes of that hour, and the big wheel would also reduce rolling resistance.

Haven't heavier wheels also been used for the flywheel effect? If there is some validity to that claim, then surely that wheel has to be pretty effective.

Can someone recommend a pub that fits following criteria in Oxford for this saturday?
Possibility to put 4/5 bikes somewhere, decent ales, closer to station for the train back to London.
YES - options:
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186361-d1811472-Reviews-The_Perch_inn-Oxford_Oxfordshire_England.html - this place is fucking charming, thatched old pub in the middle of the countryside by the river with lovely interior, only 5 mins ride from train station... gone a bit gastro now but food is lovely or you can still chill by the fire with ales... so much secure garden to leave bikes.
http://oldbookbinders.co.uk/ - favourite pub in oxford, 5 mins ride from train station, not 'space' for bikes as such but loads of good locking spots outside and generally a safe area - I've left my good bike locked (properly) outside for a number of evenings and been fine...
http://www.portmahon.co.uk/ - cracking pub, 10 mins ride from station, got a big garden you should be able to pop the bikes in...
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/27/27271/Kite_Inn/Oxford - if you want REALLY close to the station and reasonable pub, I'd go here - ale is reasonable, have left bikes in the garden close to the back door before, which feels pretty secure... have ended up here a few times having ridden back home from London and they do a good ribs and chips, although they seem to be able to serve it worryingly quickly...

They have
If there is some validity to that claim,
I don't think there is. The mass of the rider provides a huge amount of inertia, far more than could realistically be added to a wheel initially around 2% or less of the total system mass.

On a non cycling question, any got an actifry? It is a hot air fry thingy...only uses a table spoon of oil for a whole 1lb of chips.
Just wondering about peoples experiences.
