a quick link might come apart when back pedalling

I live in Ealing and have never broken a chain. So there.
-
• #55629
Maybe it's because I'm only passing through Ealing.
Typically I need a tool (park ct5) and chain (1z1 or z510 hx) and cannot find anywhere that has both I could get today or tomorrow.

Or use your hands like a proper man.
I'd high five you but I'm also a proper man.

Strangely enough I've snapped two chains in Ealing - must be a chain installation black spot!
Nope. We just eat the weak in Ealing.

I also tried to set up a membership. This was in June. Come July I got the following email:
Thank you for your interest in the club. We're currently in the process of changing our membership procedures. In the past we invited prospective members to join us on our Sunday club ride so we could meet each other, but due to the recent increase in interest we're setting up a monthly novice/induction ride. Once this is in place I'll contact you again with the details.
I never heard anything else, so I gave up on riding with Brixton due to poor communication and their attitude sounding like a pain in the ass.Cupcakes & Owl
I'm really sorry about this, we've had a total committee change in November and things are now a bit more cohesive, but still with a healthy dose of BCC bonkers.
The website really isn't very clear at the moment about how to join, but essentially the best thing to do is come along on a Sunday club run, meeting at 8-30 at St Germain cafe CP, or come to a social at the Landor on the third Thursday of every month (23rd this month, 7-30). we're a broad church and all are welcome.
The submission you both have pending is to gain access to the site, we have so many speculative requests that we only currently 'approve' people who've come to a social, or ride and have paid subs. Not ideal by any means, but this will change/be made clearer on the website soon.
As Dammit says the website can be migrane inducing, but when our 'web sec' is back in business we'll sort it out.
The club is always welcoming and completely inclusive, I understand that your impressions so far of the club aren’t great and I can’t blame you for that, but give us another go if you fancy it and we won’t disappoint you, I hope.... :)
In the mean time if you need any more info please just email me on rob@rjmcauliffeltd.co.uk.
Cheers
Rob

a master link would be better on a fixed wheel
I think this is wrong- the chain is only ever under tension rather than being compressed and so the link will hold rather than being forced open.
Have used both types of links and never had issues, though I've always liked the idea of the ones where there is a screw through the roller.

Thanks DJ - I was worried it may have been something else. I am aware of opinion about the quick links but I have decided it's fine (used the same logic as Salmonchild just stated).

And BCC drink in the Landor - gutted I missed them when I lived in London; used to live directly opposite that pub (though it was probably you lot keeping me awake on a school night) & wanted a club in the area!

What price would be fair for my crabon wheels that would get them sold?

When you've installed a pin it often creates a slightly tight link. If you turn the tool over to the other side, and use the upper part of the cradle you can push the pin back ever-so-slightly in the opposite direction to the way you installed it and it frees it up:

this.
but you missed the point about the pressure being applied on the opposite pin.
something like this, if it makes any sense:

What does the part of a Kryptonite key set into the plastic look like? Broader? T-head?

This will be mainly due to HillyBilly and his traditional enforcement of last-orders-black-sambucca to give the end of the evening a suitable kick up the arse.

True with gears but not with fixed as far as I can work out since you don't have the derailleur spring to tension the slack side of the chain.

• #55644
Try compressing a chain and see how far you get. Clue - it's articulated with flexible links.

Is black cloth bar tape something you would expect to find in most London bike shops?
If not, does anyone know anywhere in north/east/central London that sells black cloth bar tape?
